What are the responsibilities and job description for the QC Chemist II position at Betco Corporation?
SUMMARY:
Conducts research and experimentation for new product development and process improvement. Experience formulating cleaning products including but not limited to all purpose cleaners, degreasers, skin cleansers, glass cleaners, disinfectants. Laundry and warewash cleaners and ‘green’ cleaners are preferred.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: other duties may be assigned as needed.
- Develop new products or procedures as requested.
- Modify existing formulations as requested.
- Bring new technology to Betco through vendor meetings, trade journals and seminars.
- Self directed and able to conduct projects independently.
- Provide increasing levels of project leadership
- Provide recommendations to QC, QA, and manufacturing concerning test procedures, batch corrections or manufacturing procedures to develop new formulations as requested.
- Provide technical assistance to Betco personnel, distributors, end users, government officials and medical personnel.
- Review literature such as tech sheets, labels and MSDS’s for accuracy.
- Approve new and alternate raw materials.
- Participate in training seminars, team meetings, and development meetings.
- Conduct tour groups through the laboratory.
- Conduct field testing when necessary.
- Develop new test methods when necessary.
- Work with other departments to complete projects.
- Maintain clean and safe work environment.
- Work with and validate various analytical equipment such as HPLC and GC FTIR
- Ensure compliance with consumer and customer safety regulations FDA CARB GHS and EPA
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s degree in technical area or equivalent. Chemistry degree preferred.
3-5 years professional experience in a laboratory environment.
Experience in running quality control validations on raw materials and manufactured products.
REQUIRED SKILLS
Capable to teach wet chemistry testing including but not limited to titrations, pH determinations, foam testing, solids determinations and refractometer readings.
Be able to use and train others on analytical tools such as specialized equipment necessary to perform testing including but not limited to Viscometer, FTIR, GC, Flash Point tester and centrifuge.
Proficient ability to use scientific methods to conduct experiments and keep excellent lab records.
Must be able to function as part of a team or as team leader and be able to direct the activities of others.
Must be able to interact with both corporate and manufacturing contacts and provide hands-on troubleshooting assistance with product issues
Capable to perform all cleaning and validation tasks associated with I&I cleaning such as mopping, wiping, pressure washing and scrubbing.
Computer literate in Microsoft Office Suite.
Must be able to work non-traditional hours and work overtime when requested.
PHYSICAL REQUIRMENTS
Must be able to perform field work when necessary to accomplish task.
Able to lift heavy equipment
