Position Title: Financial Aid Advisor
Department: Student Financial Aid Office Immediate Supervisor: Director of Financial Aid Function: To assist students and families proactively in affording an education at BCU by optimizing funding from federal, state, and institutional resources within the framework of established federal/state/institution regulations and policies
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Evaluate student's applications for financial aid and determine eligibility (including satisfactory academic progress) and award various types of federal, state, and institutional assistance in full compliance with federal and state regulations, university policies, and audit requirements
- Communicate with students and parents on questions they may have concerning aid programs, application procedures, availability of aid, eligibility requirements, awarded amounts, etc., using quality customer service principles, techniques, and standards.
- Counsel prospective and currently enrolled students in financial aid matters; coordinate and perform workshop presentations as needed.
- Resolves any inconsistent data on student aid applications and verification documents in
- compliance with federal student aid Verification requirements,
- Adhere to deadline, policies and procedures, any of the duties as assigned by the Director.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Bachelor's degree preferred; and experience and knowledge of student financial aid and federal policies related to student financial aid
- Proven customer service skills and enthusiasm for providing exceptional service to diverse populations including undergraduate and graduate students, parents, staff, faculty, and other constituencies
- Sensitivity to the financial concern and stress of students and their families, and an aptitude for explaining complex financial information in terms that are easily understood and enhance the student/parent experience
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, organization, time-management and analytical skills
- Experience in multi-tasking and detailed operations
- Ability to be flexible and adapt to stressful circumstances and difficult students/parents
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively towards the optimum delivery of service to students/parents
- Ability to multi-task and display a wide degree of creativity and latitude
- Flexibility in work schedule to accommodate limited evening and weekend hours
Physical Requirements:
Requires some physical effort, i.e., some standing and walking, frequent light lifting (5-15 lbs.); and manual dexterity in the operation of office equipment; extensive periods of time at a keyboard; occasional hours outside the normal University schedule; and extensive travel.
