Qualified candidates must be upbeat and compassionate. Activities aides assist with performing different activities for the residents, performing one on one visits with residents. The goal is to keep the resident and family engaged and active in the environment.
- The role of the Activity Aide is to implement programs including social but not limited to events, outings, regular recurring activities, and other recreational opportunities to meet the physical, mental, emotional and social needs and interests of the residents on the monthly Recreation Calendar
- Activity Aide works directly with the Residents, promoting participation in individual, group or independent recreation or leisure interests, improving the quality of life for all residents.
- Activity Aide assists in residents in becoming meaningfully engaged in variety of recreation programs designed to meet the needs, capabilities, and interests of the Residents
- Activity Aide assists residents going to, moving about during, and returning from activities using good body mechanics and safe transfer techniques
- Assist in orienting and coordinating the involvement of others who participate in facility activities
- Activity Aide will carry out regular one to one activities with the Residents and record these activities in the attendance book
- Keep ongoing and accurate progress notes and attendance records of all residents to and from activities
- Assist with charting, flowsheet documentation, and other paperwork related to recreation therapy department
- Is responsible for maintaining recreation equipment and supplies
- Assume responsibility for the physical set-up and break-down of the room when assigned to an activity
- Maintain and display art work for decorations, internal publicity, plants, and all horticulture items
- Assist with special department projects, up to and including, but not limited to pet therapy
Requirements
- Familiarity with recreational therapy principles and practices; residents' rights; and facility's policies and procedures, preferred
- Must have good skills in working and communicating with residents.
- Must show energy, enthusiasm, and creativity in working with residents.
- Previous experience with geriatric patients is a huge plus!
- High School Diploma or Equivalent, preferred, not required.
- Work well under pressure & willing to work harmoniously with all staff
- Sincere desire to work with the elderly, chronically ill, and handicapped
- Possess a spirit of cooperation and enthusiasm
- Excellent customer service skills
- Must be able to communicate well verbally with residents, families and staff
- Treat residents and fellow staff with respect, dignity, and compassion
- Must be able to work every other weekend and some holidays
