The Reserve Division of the Bexar County Sheriff's Office (BCSO) is continuously seeking qualified peace officers who meet the high standards necessary to become a Bexar County Reserve Deputy Sheriff
The BCSO reserve deputies are utilized to supplement sworn full-time law enforcement personnel of the BCSO. Like fulltime deputies, reserve deputies are professionally trained and duly commissioned as peace officers through the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement. Reserve deputies are armed, uniformed peace officers that are required to maintain the same high standards of training as their fulltime law enforcement counterparts of the BCSO
Reserves deputies are assigned to duties in patrol, Criminal Investigation Division (CID), criminal and civil warrants, court security, school program (priority), and special assignments based on the individual deputy's expertise and assignments available within the Sheriff's Office
Reserve Deputies have the same powers of arrest as full-time deputies and are required to meet the same hiring, background, medical, and psychological standards as full-time deputies. A complete background check, polygraph and personal interview are required
Reserve Deputies are required to work a minimum of 16 hours every month
Graduation from High School or a General Education development (GED) Certificate
Must be at least 21 years of age at the time of application for appointment as Deputy Sheriff
Must possess Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Peace Officer license
Must be in good physical and mental health
Must not have a history of criminal or improper personal conduct
Must possess a valid Texas Class C driver's license
United States Citizenship required
All new deputies are required to complete a training program prior to assignment to a division in the BCSO. All training with the BCSO if free of charge to all reserve deputies
Working Conditions and Physical Demands:
Depending on work assignment, working conditions are either in an office environment or in the field with occasional exposure to unusual elements, extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes and unpleasant odors. Working conditions also include exposure to hazards or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions
Physical requirements include occasional lifting/carrying of 5-10 lbs.; visual acuity, speech and hearing; hand and eye coordination and manual dexterity necessary to operate computer keyboard and basic office equipment. Subject to handling, walking, sitting, standing, bending and reaching to perform the essential functions

To schedule the exam, you will need to provide your name and telephone number and email address. The exam will be administered at the Bexar County Training Academy located at 1450 Gillette, San Antonio, TX 78224.
You must arrive fifteen (15) minutes ahead of the scheduled test time. You will not be allowed to test if you report late. All applicants must have a valid Texas Driver's License with current address to test. You must pass your written exam (if you have not worked for the Sheriff's Office in the past).
*Reminder* You must hold an Active Texas Peace Officer License in good standings.
