What are the responsibilities and job description for the Lead Court Clerk position at Bexar County?
Summary
Under General Supervision, oversees and trains in preparing and maintaining hearing, jury and non-jury daily dockets.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Assists management with personnel issues, budget requests and attending off-site meetings
- Assists and acts as a backup to Court Clerks
- Verifies accuracy of court case reports, statistics and legal documents and issues appropriate correspondence on behalf of the Court
- Administers oaths and takes proofs for parties involved in individual cases
- Calculates and collects various filing, recording and document processing fees, balances daily monetary transactions and is responsible for processing large monetary deposits
- Answers complex and general questions in person and by telephone regarding case filing and court procedures
- Makes certified copies of legal documents
- Performs other duties as required
Minimum Qualifications
- High School or General Education Degree (GED) certificate and four (4) years judicial system experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Good knowledge of State Judicial Code; civil, criminal or probate courtroom procedures; and basic legal terminology
- Skill in applying the State Judicial Code
- Skill to type 45 wpm with no more than 7 errors
- Ability to maintain document records and filing systems; ability to perform basic mathematical calculations; ability to operate personal computer and basic office equipment; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, County employees, Elected/Appointed Officials, attorneys and the public
- Must secure and maintain Texas Justice Court Training Center Clerk Certification within six months of employment
- Must secure and maintain a favorable background investigation and clearance
- Must clear a pre-employment physical and a pre-employment drug screen test
- May be required to work more than 40 hours during the workweek
