Hot Mix Asphalt Technician (Plainview, TX)

ROLE OVERVIEW

Beyond Engineering and Testing (Beyond) is currently seeking multiple Hot Mix Asphalt Technicians for our projects in Plainview, TX. Hot Mix Asphalt Technician will perform quality control (QC) or quality acceptance (QA) sampling, testing and inspections of asphaltic materials for TxDOT, municipality, and aviation projects.

Key Responsibilities

- Perform field sampling and testing of asphaltic concrete in accordance with established procedures and the standard methods established by AASHTO, ASTM, TxDOT or other agency with appropriate, properly calibrated testing equipment.

- Prepare and submit accurate, legible, comprehensive and complete testing reports on a daily basis in accordance with established quality procedures.

- Perform analysis or calculations to check accuracy, applicability and reasonableness of testing data.

- Review testing records performed by other construction engineering technicians to assure compliance with requirements of established procedures.

- Maintains assigned equipment and related calibration in accordance with established laboratory quality management procedures.

- Follows safety rules and practices and other safety requirements for all projects. Performs pre-task planning prior to executing work. Report any safety issues or concerns to management.

Basic/Required Qualifications

- High School Diploma or equivalent required.

- Minimum 1 year experience with hot mix asphalt production, placement, or QC or QA sampling, testing or inspection is required.

- Certification in one of the following areas is required (or have ability to become certified in 3 months from employment):

• TxAPA Level 1A in hot mix asphalt production testing
• TxAPA Level 1B in hot mix asphalt placement testing and inspection.

- Certification in one or more of the following areas is not required but preferred:

• ACI Concrete Field Grade 1
• TxAPA SB102 in soils and base

- Possess working knowledge of:

• TxDOT and FAA hot mix asphalt sampling and testing procedures
• TxDOT and FAA hot mix asphalt specifications
• TxDOT HMA QC/QA reporting template

- Candidates must have a valid driver’s license with 3 or fewer tickets in the past 3 years.

- Reliability – must be able to arrive at designated project sites prior to scheduled times.

- Ability to prepare reports and documentation.

- Strong written and verbal communication skills.

- Basic knowledge of MS Word, Excel and Outlook.

- Flexibility to work outside normal business hours as required.

- Must pass drug test, physical, background check and must have a satisfactory driving record in accordance with the Company's driving (MVR) policy.

Physical Demands

- Physical examination required to obtain medical clearance to work.

- Ability to lift 40 lbs. and move 100 lbs.

- Able to work in variable outside conditions, including extreme heat or cold.

Individuals must be authorized to work in the U.S.

Candidates will go through background, driver’s license, and drug tests.
