$30.00/hour - $30.00/hour, variable hours
SUMMARY OF DUTIES
The “LEAD 716” program provides critically-needed early intervention to preschool children in WNY diagnosed with elevated levels of lead in their blood.
Children who have been exposed to lead are at greater risk of learning disabilities, lower IQ scores, speech and hearing issues, as well as attention and behavior problems. LEAD716 is working to mitigate the negative effects of lead during a critical period in brain development.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIP
Reports to LEAD 716 Program Coordinator
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide play-based learning experiences and instruction with 2-5 year-old children individually or in very small group sessions in the child’s daycare, preschool, or home; one-hour weekly sessions.
- Focus on early literacy, social, and emotional development, including the child’s family in the process whenever possible to encourage learning opportunities between sessions.
- Nurture positive relationships, self-esteem and a positive attitude toward learning.
- Maintain accurate records of tutoring sessions and present regular reports to the director, while promptly communicating questions and concerns.
- Be on time for tutoring sessions and/or notify child’s family and project director in advance if unable to keep tutoring sessions as scheduled.
- Maintain confidentiality of children and families.
SKILLS & ABILITIES
- Preschool Tutors must demonstrate the personal attributes that will enable them to interact effectively and get along positively with children and families.
- Tutors must be enthusiastic and dedicated to ensuring quality programming for children.
- Tutors must be able to work well with a diverse population and be dedicated to improving educational achievement and social and emotional well-being of students.
EDUCATION & TRAINING
- Bachelor's degree preferred in the one following areas; education, child development, occupational therapy speech therapy and/or nursing.
- 1 year of experience working with young children with developmental delays.
- Strong understanding of lead poisoning, its effects, and associated educational challenges.
- Demonstrated ability to support preschoolers with social-emotional issues effectively.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to develop and implement personalized learning plans.
- Experience with early childhood education or special education is a plus.
- Experience as a Behavior Therapist and/or Child Psychologist a plus.
