What are the responsibilities and job description for the EHS Specialist III position at BG Products, Inc?
The Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) Specialist III provides expert level knowledge and support to the Operations group within BG Products to ensure a safe and environmentally compliant work environment while maintaining compliance with all local, state and federal regulations. This position will work closely with the EHS Manager (being able to step in during their absence), other EHS specialist’s and all departments within BG Products to plan, direct, and implement EHS programs.

- Prepares, performs and directs accident/incident/illness, and near miss investigations and communicates results and resolution as needed.
- Evaluates, analyzes, and implements proper engineering and administrative control strategies, and proper personal protective equipment.
- Prepares, performs and directs industrial hygiene (IH) monitoring/sampling as needed to maintain compliance with hearing conservation program, air monitoring requirements, and other IH initiatives.
- Prepares, performs and directs BG Products monthly drug testing program.
- Prepares, performs and directs new employee orientation training.
- Prepares, performs and directs in the development of safety meetings that will encourage and promote employee engagement.
- Prepares, performs and directs the development and coordination of safety related training such as powered industrial equipment (fork lift), confined space entry, hazard communication, fire safety, fall protection and other training as required.
- Prepares, performs and directs in the auditing and inspection of BG Products safety programs.
- Prepares, performs and directs in the execution of periodic emergency drills such as fire, chemical release, severe weather, medical, and other emergencies and maintains plans accordingly.
- Prepares, performs and directs the periodic reviews of all safety policies and procedures as well as maintaining injury and illness statistics and reports (Dart, OIR, OSHA, etc.)
- ISO 45001 responsibilities include the participation in system auditing, safety review, and establishing the objectives for measuring the effectiveness of the system.
- Prepares, performs and directs the competition of annual above ground storage tanks (AST’s) permit renewal and notification of local fire departments, LEPC’s, and KDHE.
- Prepares, performs and directs the tank integrity inspection and testing of all storage tanks (AST’s) at all tank farms and blending centers and other AST’s at all BG locations.
- Prepares, performs and directs the Workers Compensation program, management and closure of work comp cases, working directly with employee, HR director, insurance company, and hospitals and medical clinics while controlling costs and outcomes.
- Prepares, performs and directs periodic inspections of facilities by risk management and insurance companies.
Environmental Compliance that includes:
- Prepares, performs and directs the completion of the annual Emergency and Hazardous Chemical Inventory (Tier II) report for LEPC’s and KDHE.
- Prepares, performs and directs the completion of the annual Toxic Release Inventory (TRI – Form A/R) report to the KDHE, and EPA.
- Assists in the management of various programs such as the hazardous waste program, the Integrated Contingency Plan (ICP), SPCC, SWPPP, regulatory reports as well as scrap fluid program.
- Prepares, performs and directs in the weekly / monthly / quarterly / annual environmental inspections.
- Prepares, performs and directs in waste minimization efforts and lean EHS initiatives.
- ISO 14001 responsibilities to include the participation in system auditing, environmental reviews, and establishing the objectives for measuring the effectiveness of the system.
- Prepares, performs and directs in the development and implementation of environmental policies and procedures while maintain existing programs.
- Prepares, performs and directs shipping/receiving departments with DOT / IATA / IMDG regulations and training.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field with over ten years of experience in Environmental, Health and Safety.Experience working in a manufacturing environment is highly preferred.
- Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
