This position is a permanent position for full time only. Flexiblity is a must. Events may fall on evenings and weekends.
Under the general supervision of Management, coordinates catering staff schedules to ensure all functions are delivered, served and cleared in a timely fashion. Prepares and serves food at scheduled functions under the supervision of the Catering Director. May drive a truck to deliver food and beverages to catered functions.
Essential Duties, Tasks and Responsibilities
· Directs full-time, part-time and student employees.
· In absence of management, is responsible for the total operation of a Dining Facility including food preparation, service, personnel procedures, office practices and all other administrative functions.
· Responsibilities may include supervision of all service areas, maintaining high quality service to the customers.
· Responsibilities may include receiving, inspecting, securing, and inventory of food and supplies necessary for the operation.
· Responsibilities may include hiring, scheduling, training, evaluating, and disciplining full-time, part-time and student employees.
· Informs staff as lines are closed to minimize leftovers.
· Implements policies and procedures.
· Maintains all related records.
· Promotes customer satisfaction by answering questions, solving problems, or securing information regarding Bowling Green State Dining, and displaying good public relations.
· Ensures courteous and prompt service.
· Has working knowledge of all kitchen equipment, basic office equipment, computer, and cash register.
· Knows and practices principals of food sanitation HACCP, personal health and cleanliness, time management, fire prevention, safety, and accident and theft prevention.
· Understands and complies with all cash and accounting procedures of both Bowling Green State University and BGSU Dining.
· Safeguards all storage areas by locking each after usage.
· Continuous standing. May work early, late, or rotating shifts and every other weekend.
· Determines workload requirements from catering orders.
· Meets with function group leaders to discuss setup arrangements; addresses last-minute changes and resolves problems.
· Interacts with customers and resolves complaints in a service-oriented manner.
· Demonstrates complete understanding of menu items.
· Ensures proper food preparation by following approved recipes and production standards.
· Must possess or able to obtain a food handler’s permit and/or alcohol servers permit where required by state law.
· ServSafe® certification required or ability to obtain certification.
· Knows and adheres to Bowling Green State University and BGSU Dining rules and regulations.
· Communicates positive values to staff and customers through actions, provides high quality customer service.
· Support the mission, core values and practices of BGSU.
· Deals with emergencies.

QUALIFICATIONS
· High School diploma required plus additional course work or experience in food preparation, operation of kitchen equipment, food management and supervision.
· Ability to carry out simple instructions; read and write English; copy and record figures.
· Knowledge of addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, and decimals.
· A valid Driver’s License may be required.
· Ability to lift up to 50 pounds (lbs.).
· Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
· Ability to stand for entire scheduled shift - may be between 8 and 9 hours.
· Pleasant, congenial personality, with good interpersonal communication skills.
· Clean, well-groomed, neat appearance necessary.
