Summary Description of Classification: This position serves as a single source to assist drivers with emergencies and routine problems while ensuring bus drivers and bus monitors are dispatched efficiently.
Minimum Qualification Standards
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
Language Skills: Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small-group situations. Ability to tactfully communicate system policies and procedures.
Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent and to create graphs.
Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations. Ability to receive and interpret directions from others.
Technical Ability: Must have considerable knowledge of Microsoft Office Products.
Interpersonal Skills: Must have excellent customer service and interpersonal skills in relating to students, parents, coworkers and the public. Must possess leadership skills. Must work well under pressure.
Education and/or Experience: High school diploma or general education degree (GED). A Two-year college degree in management preferred. Two years of experience in pupil transportation or as a dispatcher is required.
Certificate and License Requirements: Valid Commercial Driver License Class B with P and S endorsements. Must meet all requirements for school bus driver certification.
Physical Demands: Tasks involve the regular and, at times, sustained performance of moderately physically demanding work, typically involving some combination of climbing and balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling, and that may involve the lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials (20-50 pounds).

- Maintains the radio network by ensuring drivers are compliant with FCC regulations.
- Communicates over the radio and provides solutions to assist drivers.
- Contacts appropriate emergency agencies and coordinates emergency actions during crisis situations.
- Re-routes and re-schedules drivers as necessary.
- Assists school employees and the general public with transportation questions.
- Coordinates the assignment of drivers and monitors for Community Based Instruction (CBI).
- Utilizes the transportation department’s GPS system and prepares reports as needed.
- Provides bus locations and data to school system administrators.
- Performs administrative functions as required.
- Participates in transportation program planning activities.
- Performs other duties as directed by the Director of Transportation.

Salary/Terms/Benefits
- 239 day contract year; 8 hours per day
- Salary Range: Grade 35 ($16.34 - $18.40) hourly (placement on salary schedule based on years of related experience). Up to ten years allowed. The stated salary range reflects the opportunity for pay over the course of the employee's tenure. For external candidates, the top pay is not a potential starting salary.
