Operations Manager

BSOOB Transit is seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented leader who will be responsible for the oversight of public transportation services. The successful candidate will be a strong communicator who is innovative, possesses knowledge of transit operations, and has the ability to successfully lead and empower employees.

Position Summary:

The Operations Manager is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the public transit service. This role provides direction to transportation supervisors and front-line staff emphasizing a culture of safety and customer service. An important function of this position includes maintaining effective working relationships with other departments and peer transit agencies to promote and maintain an effective and efficient public transit service.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Leads and oversees all aspects of transit service delivery, manage day-to-day operations, and supports any emergency services.
• Supervises service operations, on-time performance, overtime, operator engagement and recognition, and promotes a culture of safety.
• Manages Transportation Supervisors and Operators.
• Works to ensure the effective assigning, scheduling and dispatching of operators and vehicles.
• Model standards of professionalism, performance, and accountability.
• Oversees investigation of incidents, complaints, and/or accidents for the purpose of resolving or recommending a resolution to the situation.
• Handles all Transportation department related disciplinary suspensions, discharges and grievances; support the administration of the collective bargaining agreement.
• Monitors on-time performance data of on-time to evaluate and improve reliability.
• Assist HR with operator recruitment, and monitors operational budget outcomes.
• Identify and address problems and opportunities for the company.
• Responsible for the implementation of organizational goals and objectives.
• Support employee and customer communications and outreach.
• Ensures that all team members exhibit internal and external customer support skills.
• Maintains an effective working relationship and communication with the Executive Director, Deputy Director, peers and subordinates.

Position Qualifications:

• Five (5) years progressively responsible experience in bus transportation and/or operations management along with experience managing in a union environment.
• Bachelor's Degree in Logistics, Business Administration or related field preferred; Experience will be considered in lieu of education requirement.
• Ability to act with integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality.
• Strong organizational skills to keep teams and processes on track.
• Experience in working with municipal departments, such as public works or law enforcement.
• Ability to display emotional intelligence, rational thinking, and innovation to find solutions to complex problems.
• Must be able to demonstrate analytical reasoning, critical thinking, as well as a high level of customer orientation.
• Must be able to work some after hours and weekends, as needed.

• Ability to use spreadsheets, word processing, and email.

Physical Requirements and Environmental Factors:

• Work is frequently conducted in an office or similar indoor environment relatively free from unpleasant environmental conditions or hazards. Incumbent may sometimes be in a street, warehouse, shop or operating station environment or exposed to hostile or irate individuals, moving mechanical parts and fumes or airborne particles.
• Occasional standing, walking, crouching, kneeling, pulling and pushing.
• Occasional lifting and carrying objects.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $72,500.00 - $82,500.00 per year
