Director of Social Communications

Biden for President
Wilmington, DE Full Time
POSTED ON 3/13/2024

Overview: The Biden For President Campaign is seeking a Director of Social Communications to drive our organic social media and digital rapid response strategies. This person will oversee our Platforms team and our Digital Rapid Response team, which manage the President’s social media accounts and campaign properties like @BidenHQ. We want to build a program that is as rooted in the President’s voice and values as it is pushing boundaries and trying new stuff. To do that we need someone with excellent political instincts, an entrepreneurial drive, experience managing large social media teams, and a point of view of how we campaign in the hyper-fragmented, vertical-video-driven, social media moment of today. We also need someone who recognizes that social media is not just a Gen Z thing – it’s a core way we talk to all of our key audiences. If you think Malarkey is a red flag, if your Roman Empire is the fight to protect Democracy, or you realize that this sentence is, itself, proof that we need help here, we want to talk to you.

Key Responsibilities
  • Establishing and driving a social media and content strategy that helps reach our key audiences while building a deeply-connected supporter community
  • Overseeing our Digital Platforms and Digital Rapid Response teams – responsible for the President’s owned and operated platforms, as well as integrated digital crisis communications and political influencer management (Note: Non-political influencers will live on another team)
  • Helping to guide response strategies to crises, social media trends, and mis-and-disinformation
  • Maintaining a global content calendar for the campaign
  • Setting clear goals and metrics of success for social media growth and reach
  • Managing a weekly reporting process to internal and external stakeholders
  • Providing care to Dark Brandon, who can be dangerous if not fed
  • Serving as the first-line approver of social media content
  • Maintaining a strong point of view on the President’s voice and ensuring consistency across our various principals

Preferred Skills & Qualifications
  • 10 years of experience in social media or team management in a corporate, political, government, or non-profit setting.
  • You really gotta know social media, though. That’s not a joke.
  • You have an appreciation for the President’s voice and values – and know that what works for one candidate doesn’t work for every candidate.
  • Experiencing managing large teams with a proven track record of success and growth and good stuff happening
  • Political experience is not required, however, demonstrated political judgment is. For example, you should, at the time you read this job posting, know what the Inflation Reduction Act did, what the Dobbs decision was, and be tracking which candidates remain in the Republican primary.
  • But for real though you really gotta know politics more than just casually
  • A general orientation toward building strong communities online
  • Experiencing working with external stakeholders to move campaigns, projects, and concepts forward, and getting along well with them – yes, including the press people. We love the press people. They did not make us write this.
  • Willingness to relocate to Wilmington, DE

Additional Useful Skills & Qualifications
  • Please do not tell us that we need a Taylor Swift strategy. We are tracking.
