Job Type: Full-time; non-exempt; 40 hours/week OR Part-time; non-exempt 25 to 32 hours/week (Depending on Availability of Ideal Candidate)

Overview of Big Brothers Big Sisters McHenry County:For over 39 years, Big Brothers Big Sisters of McHenry County has worked to provide children facing adversity with positive, adult mentors. Our mission is to create and support one-to-one mentoring relationships that ignite the power and promise of youth. We accomplish this through 4 mentoring programs; lunch-time mentoring, after-school mentoring, community-based mentoring and our Big Futures program. We have an 14 person staff (mixture of full-time and part-time) and serve approximately 500 children per year through our 4 programs. Check out our website at BBBSMcHenry.org

Overview of Community Based Match Specialist Position: Essential to the BBBS mission, the primary function of this position is to provide matching and match support to ensure child safety, positive impacts for youth, constructive and satisfying relationships between children and volunteers, and a strong sense of affiliation with BBBS on the part of volunteers.

Performance Measures: The successful Match Specialist will produce positive outcomes in the following areas: match satisfaction, match closure rate, match retention rate, match goals, average match length, and match documentation.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Uphold the agency’s core values: empowerment, safety, integrity, flexibility, compassion, and cultural competency
  • Provide relational, excellent customer service to all volunteers, families and community members.
  • Guide volunteers and families through the enrollment process. Schedule and conduct enrollment interviews for Littles and their parent/guardian, and for volunteers. Document the interview and assessment, and make recommendations for enrollment in the program and for the matching process.
  • Facilitate pre-match safety training for Littles, and for Parent/Guardian. Document completion of training.
  • Present potential matches to one another in way that honors the confidentiality of the match parties until the match has been accepted. Guide match introductions with new matches and complete required documentation in Matchforce and files.
  • Continually assess the match relationship focusing on: child safety, match relationship development, positive youth development and volunteer satisfaction.
  • Match barriers and potential difficulties are identified, addressed and resolved as quickly as possible.
  • Match support is provided on a frequency according to BBBS Standards, at a minimum.
  • Ensure high-level expertise in applying child safety and risk management knowledge, policies and procedures throughout all aspects of job function.
  • Develop strategic interventions to identify and strengthen match relationships that require extra support to continue to grow.
  • Effectively utilize surveys to assess match impact on youth development. CreateYouth Outcome Development Plans.
  • In rare circumstances, contact DCFS as required and follow procedures regarding internal and external documentation as required.
  • Ensure quality services and measurable outcomes, maintain accurate and timely file and Matchforce documentation for each match according to national standards.
  • Conduct exit interview by phone with all parties at match closure. Assess reasons for match closure and re-match potential. When match closes, forward the file to supervisor for third party assessment.
  • Promote and facilitate group match activities to support Big and Little engagement with the agency.
  • Participate in agency wide volunteer recognition and fundraising events.
  • Participate in monthly all staff meetings, bi-monthly Community Based Meetings, and other organization trainings and meetings.
  • Identify and promote re-engagement of volunteers as Bigs, board members, and donors in other volunteer capacities.
  • Consult with other service delivery staff and/or supervisor as appropriate.
  • Share with development and/or marketing staff potential partnership relationships as discovered through volunteers’ and parents’ employers and affiliations.
  • Act as a team player by providing coverage, as needed, for other departments.
  • Provide files for supervisor’s review for new matches, at the match anniversary, and at match closure.
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications for Position:

  • Enthusiasm and palpable passion for the mission of BBBS
  • Assessment of and relationship development experience with child and adult populations; understanding of child development, child safety, and family dynamics.
  • High level customer service. Strong communication and interpersonal skills both in person and on the phone
  • Ability to relate well to diverse perspectives and ability to thrive in diverse environments
  • Ability to build and maintain trusting relationships through acting with extreme integrity
  • Alignment with the core values of BBBS McHenry County: empowerment, safety, integrity, flexibility, compassion, and cultural competency
  • Must be able to work independently and also work as part of a small team
  • Attention to detail and organized
  • Must be self-motivated, flexible and able to manage multiple priorities
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Ability to type a minimum of 40 words per minute
  • A high school diploma or GED required, bachelors degree or relevant years of work/life experience preferred
