Position Summary:
The Quality Systems Director will be responsible for managing the bakery’s Quality Control and Quality Assurance programs and ensuring compliance with Company, customer and government procedures. This role also ensures that processes and staffing are appropriately developed and implemented to maintain the quality system, set strategic vision/goals in alignment with operations. They will be inspecting and auditing the operation in all phases of quality performance (raw materials, production, packaging, distribution, HACCP, GMP’s, etc.) and oversees the Food Safety (Sanitation) department to ensure a safe and quality product.
This role must have a thorough knowledge and understanding of food manufacturing, processes, and procedures, and thorough knowledge and understanding of microbiology and raw material programs to assess and make appropriate decisions in a fast-paced environment. Strong ability to demonstrate leadership skills for building a strong department as well as supporting existing programs and creating new ones.
Key Job Responsibilities:
· Helps define and administer BQ Global Quality, Food Safety, Sanitation & Regulatory Compliance standards and strategy. Aligning and incorporating Global standards and strategy with regional specific initiatives and objectives.
· Contributing member of the BQ US-Quality Systems Leadership and Regional Leadership Teams. Leading a Regional Quality Systems Leadership Team to ensure functional alignment with overall BQ strategy.
· Responsible for the creation of Regional Quality Systems and Sanitation budgets through collaboration with individual sites determining CAPEX and headcount requirements to maintain Quality, Food Safety and Sanitation standards
· Partners with the People Department in the recruitment, hiring, on-boarding and development of Quality Systems and Sanitation personnel. Includes annual performance reviews with direct reports and the development of a robust talent assessment & succession plan by site.
· Establishes a meaningful interface with customers, vendors and trade organizations to enhance BQ’s visibility and reputation in the industry. This includes preparation and participation in customer performance reviews / meetings and technical councils.
· Provide support as a Subject Matter Expert to other internal customers and functional groups as needed (development of new sites, lines, equipment, products, specification enhancements and sharing of best practices).
· Responsible for ensuring that all sites within the Region are GFSI Certified and compliant with all BQ, Local and Customer requirements.
· Communicate accurate, thorough and timely information relating to Quality, Food Safety Sanitation and Regulatory Compliance as appropriate. Owner of the Regional KPI Scorecard and associated metrics.
· Work with Operations, Sales, R&D and Material Procurement personnel in qualifying / on-boarding new customers and suppliers.
· Performs other duties as assigned.

Education and Work History:
Education/Certification:
Bachelor’s degree in food science, chemistry, microbiology, or related field of science from an accredited college or university.
Experience:
7 years of relevant work experience in the food production and / or baking industry, with a thorough understanding of Food Safety & Quality Management Standards (SQF, BRC, FSSC 22K) and associated requisite programs and regulations.
· Read and process written information with a high degree of accuracy.
· Ability to analyze and resolve complex problems using data and SPC.
· Work effectively in a general business environment.
· Possess good English communication skills (both written and oral).
· Proficient with Microsoft Office and other menu driven software applications (TraceGains, SAP, Freshability, etc.).
· Ability to train others.
· Take initiative and be self-motivated; looking for opportunities to improve Quality & Food Safety systems and Vendor Management.
· Ability to lead by influencing and a facilitative style of management.
· Lean Manufacturing / TPM experience desired but not required.
