Summary:

We are seeking a skilled Metallurgical Technician to join our team. The Met Tech will be responsible for performing various metallurgical tests, analyses, and procedures to ensure the quality and integrity of our products. This role requires a detail-oriented individual with strong technical skills and a passion for metallurgy.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct metallurgical analyses and tests on raw materials, intermediate products, and finished goods using various testing equipment and techniques.
  • Prepare samples for metallographic analysis, including sectioning, mounting, grinding, polishing, and etching.
  • Perform microstructural examinations using optical and electron microscopy to evaluate material properties and characteristics.
  • Conduct mechanical testing, such as tensile testing, hardness testing, and impact testing, to assess material performance and behavior.
  • Interpret test results and prepare detailed reports summarizing findings, observations, and recommendations.
  • Collaborate with engineers, quality assurance personnel, and production teams to troubleshoot issues, investigate defects, and implement corrective actions.
  • Maintain and calibrate laboratory equipment to ensure accuracy and reliability of test results.
  • Adhere to safety protocols and quality standards to maintain a safe and compliant work environment.

Requirements:

  • Associate’s degree or equivalent in metallurgy, materials science, or related field.
  • 2 years of experience in a metallurgical laboratory or foundry manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Proficiency in metallurgical testing techniques, including metallography, microscopy, and mechanical testing.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to accurately record and analyze data.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Familiarity with industry standards and specifications related to metallurgical testing and analysis.
  • Knowledge of metallurgical principles, phase diagrams, and material properties.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, manage time efficiently, and meet deadlines.

Knowledge:

  • Production and Processing - Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods.
  • Mechanical - Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
  • Mathematics - Knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, geometry, calculus, statistics, and their applications.
  • Education and Training - Knowledge of principles and methods for curriculum and training design, teaching and instruction for individuals and groups, and the measurement of training effects.

  • Critical Thinking - Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.

The performance of this position normally requires exposure to a typical manufacturing areas that require the use of personal protective equipment: Steel toed shoes, Safety Glasses, hard hat, and hearing protection.


Primary environment: Temperature of work area may be affected by outside temperatures and machining. Short term exposure of temperatures up to 120 degrees Fahrenheit. Industrial lighting provided.
