Position Summary:


This is a full-time non-exempt position. This position is responsible for aiding in the general management of BioFire Defense’s R&D laboratories. In general, the Laboratory Assistant is responsible for ensuring that the R&D laboratories are stocked and operational. There are a variety of key job duties associated with this position. The Laboratory Assistant will work with the Lab Manager and other laboratory workers to ensure that the R&D laboratories are operational and provide an efficient work environment. The Laboratory Assistant must have excellent organizational and communication skills and, ideally, should be familiar with a variety of the field’s concepts, practices, and procedures, including PCR. A wide degree of independence is expected with this position. Normally receives general instructions on routine work, detailed instructions on new assignments. Reports to the Lab Manager.


Principal Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  •    Perform all work in compliance with company policy and within the guidelines of BioFire Defense’s Quality System.
  •    Applicant must be detail orientated and able to follow written/verbal directions.
  •    Requires excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  •    Acts as a liaison with HSE, QA, Facilities, and other business groups in matters concerning the R&D lab spaces.
  •    Writes, maintains, and updates Quality document files.
  •    Assists with organization and management of the R&D laboratory spaces.
  •    May assist with training and certification for new hire’s lab access.
  •    Monitors and replenishes inventories of general supplies from various vendors.
  •    Monitors expiration date of stocked reagents.
  •    Aid in researching (compare function, cost, etc.) reagents, supplies, and equipment to maximize functions and reduce costs.
  •    Coordinates instrument repairs with appropriate service groups and performs required equipment calibration and preventative                       maintenance.
  •    Responds to excursion alarms in R&D spaces when needed.
  •    Coordinates and/or perform contamination prevention procedures including swab testing and equipment decontamination.
  •    May aid with routine laboratory cleaning.


Training and Education:  


  • Minimum: high school diploma or working knowledge from prior work in a laboratory
  • Ideal candidate: an associate degree in scientific discipline (or equivalent).



Experience: 


  • 0-2 years’ experience in a laboratory setting


Skills: 


  • Excellent verbal/written communication
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Ability to work with a diverse team
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, etc.)


Physical Requirements:  


  • Must be able to safely lift 50 lbs.
