Conducts routine, periodic and emergency examinations using specialized diagnostic equipment (e.g., refractometer, indirect and direct ophthalmoscope) to Client defects that can be corrected by prisms, lenses or other optical accessory, determines by examination and evaluation of medical history whether corrective treatment of physician referral is indicated and prescribes, fits, adjusts and repairs glasses for patients.
Acts as consultant to other professional & paraprofessional staff regarding forms of eye pathology; evaluates medical records to determine corrective optometric treatment.
Plans, schedules and directs comprehensive eye screening programs, prescribes, fits, adjusts and repairs glasses; instructs patients in proper eye care and care of eyeglasses; writes medical and technical reports.
