Associate Scientist, Translational Immunology

This position is eligible for BioNTech US’s Employee Referral Program.
Job Responsibilities:
As part of the Translational Immunology Team whose goals are to understand the impact of our cutting-edge immunotherapies on the patients in our clinical trials, work to understand underlying mechanisms of response and resistance to identify biomarkers, and to establish the evidence for next-generation treatments.
  • Design, develop, and perform immunological assays on clinical samples, including ELISpot/ELISA, flow cytometry, MSD, MHC Class I and II multimer staining, and T cell-based functional assays;
  • Troubleshoot, optimize, and develop cutting-edge assays and implement new technologies to better understand how immunotherapies are working in clinical samples;
  • Lead efforts to characterize immune cell populations from clinical peripheral blood and tissue by implementing, analyzing, and visualizing data from novel immunological assays;
  • Collaborate with both internal research teams and external groups to advance translational immunology capabilities;
  • Analyze and present results within the team and to broader scientific groups including publications as appropriate;
  • Maintain a high standard of experimentation and record keeping; and
  • Train and supervise co-ops, Research Associates and Senior Research Associates and new hires to accomplish goals within designated timelines.

Job Requirements:
Employer requires a Master’s degree in Immunology or related field plus two (2) years of work experience as a biology research or related occupation. Alternatively, Employer requires a Bachelor’s degree in Immunology or a related field plus five (5) years of progressively more responsible work experience as a biology researcher or related occupation. In addition, the employer requires the following:
  • In-depth knowledge of immunology and immune-related assays gained through two (2) years of work experience;
  • Ability to independently run a multi-color flow cytometry and design and analyze flow-cytometry experiments gained through one (1) year of work experience;
  • Ability to design, test, and analyze innovative technologies to monitor immune responses gained through two (2) years of work experience;
  • Experience running assays from clinical trials gained through one (1) year of work experience;
  • Ability to manage complex protocols for innovative technologies gained through two (2) years of work experience;
  • Ability to prepare scientific analyses for presentation and reporting to colleagues and senior managers gained through two (2) years of work experience;
  • Experience compiling data for external scientific publication gained through two (2) years of work experience; and
  • Demonstrated experience functioning independently within a fast-paced, multi-disciplinary team and integrating cross-functional information gained through two (2) years of work experience.
All years of experience may be gained concurrently.
