Overview:
We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Clinical Laboratory Scientist to join our team. The Clinical Laboratory Scientist is the technician responsible for accessioning medical kits, preparing the corresponding samples for analytical procedures, and for the operation of selected clinical instruments in the laboratory. The technician works under the direct supervision of the Laboratory Manager.
Education and Experience Requirements
Most Common Educational/Training Level: Associate degree (60 semester hours) in a Laboratory Science from an accredited institution.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge:
- Considerable knowledge of biology and chemistry, equivalent to a minimum of 24 semester
hours of science courses that include 6 hours of chemistry and 6 hours of biology.
- Knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures and systems such as word processing,
managing files and records, and other basic office procedures and terminology.
Skills:
- Understanding written sentences and paragraphs in work related documents.
- Giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points
being made, asking questions as appropriate.
- Managing one's own time and the time of others.
Abilities:
- Ability to be detail-oriented and accurate,
- Ability to perform data entry and verifying demographic information,
- The ability to tell when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong. It does not involve solving the problem, only recognizing there is a problem,
- The ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences,
- Ability to operate laboratory equipment and perform basic maintenance,
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with subordinates and users of laboratory services,
- Ability to perform repetitive tasks and remain standing for long periods of time.
Typical Tasks and Activities
- Accessioning of Medical Kits, produce barcode labels, and set up specimen racks,
- Conduct analyses of clinical samples using a chemistry, immunochemistry, and hematology analyzers to detect abnormalities or diseases,
- Analyze and record test data to issue reports that use charts, graphs and narratives,
- Analyze the results of analytical tests and experiments to ensure conformity
to specifications, using mechan ical methods and e lectron ic devices,
- Prepare standard volumetric solutions and reagents to be combined with samples, following standardized formulas or experimental procedures,
- Set up, adjust, maintain and clean medical laboratory equipment.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities
- Documenting/Recording Information - Entering, transcribing, recording, storing, or maintaining information in written or electronic form.
- Prepare samples for high complexity testing – Add the required sample material to individual tubes and perform the corresponding analyte elution for analysis.
- Perform the analysis of samples in the assigned test system, and export the results for data processing and report preparation.
Working Conditions and Physical Demands
- Occupational exposure to blood components and other potentially infectious material;
- Lifting or pushing up to 25 pounds;
- Long periods of standing or sitting.

Pay: $20.00 - $25.00 per hour
