Program Description
The Vaccine, Immunity and Cancer directorate (VICD) has implemented Phase 1 of the the Center of Excellence for Serology and Emergency Preparedness (CESDEP) program. CESDEP is focused on the collection of biospecimens and clinical data from numerous collection sites under tightly controlled Standard Operating Procedures. Phase 2 will include enhancements to the supporting IT infrastructure.
Key Roles/Responsibilities
Working with the VICD subject matter experts, a JAVA software developer with experience using the Spring boot framework, is needed for the development of the CESDEP Comprehensive Data Repository (CDR). This senior software developer will update and enhance the application, develop API’s for the system, take on much of the implementation of security features into the CDR. The existing application uses Java/Groovy, Grails, and Oracle. The senior developer is expected to provide software design change recommendations, optimize/rewrite portions of code against requirements.

Responsibilities Include The Following
- Work closely with the CDR lead to implement the CESDEP requirements.
- Develop API’s for data transfer to and from the CESDEP CDR.
- Work with testers to remediate findings.
- Possibly work with security team to ensure app scans, web security, IDAM.
- Work closely with LBR program and software development manager to build and integrate systems to support the project.
- Provide programming support in Java, and Grails to develop and modify application to support project needs.
To be considered for this position, you must minimally meet the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed below:
- Possession of Bachelor’s degree in Systems Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems or related field from an accredited college/university according to the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) or four (4) years relevant experience in lieu of degree. Foreign degrees must be evaluated for U.S. equivalency.
- In addition to the education requirement, a minimum of five (5) years of software developer experience.
- Including experience with JAVA and working in a Spring environment.
- RDBMS/SQL experience.
- Skilled in html, javascript, jQuery, Ajax
- Experience with Linux
- Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance.
