POSITION
Development Specialist
PURPOSE OF POSITION
This position will work with all three branches of the Birthplace of Country Music, Inc. (BCM) in support of the Director of Development. The primary responsibility will be to manage the very active BCM grants program including oversight of the Grants Task Force which searches for and qualifies grants, and managing the grants software system and data repository that BCM uses to monitor all grant related activities within the organization. Additionally, this position will assist and support the Director of Development in the overall BCM development effort which includes various giving societies for individuals and businesses, an annual raffle, a planned giving program, and various other fundraising activities.
ABOUT BCM
The Birthplace of Country Music (BCM), a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization located in Bristol, Virginia-Tennessee, is comprised of three branches: the Smithsonian-affiliated Birthplace of Country Music Museum; the annual Bristol
Rhythm & Roots Reunion music festival; and Radio Bristol, a public radio station that broadcasts from the museum. BCM has leveraged the 1998 US Congress designation of Bristol as the “Birthplace of Country Music” to deliver meaningful and engaging exhibits, programs, educational resources, and events that celebrate the history and impact of the 1927 Bristol Sessions and Bristol’s musical heritage. Our mission: "The Birthplace of Country Music seeks to perpetuate, promote, and celebrate Bristol's rich musical heritage; to educate and engage audiences worldwide regarding the history, impact, and legacy of the 1927 Bristol Sessions; and to create recognition, opportunities, and economic benefit for our local and regional communities."
ABOUT THE POSITION

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
(Other duties may be assigned)
● Keep an up-to-date record of grant activities and documents using the GrantHub software
● Track deadlines for grant applications and grant reporting
● Track reporting requirements for awarded grants
● Coordinate with program leads to ensure funds are being spent in compliance with grant requirements
● Maintaining lists of BCM needs that are candidates for grant funded
● Ensure the recognition of grant funders including managing the BCM Grants and Awards section of the website
● Periodically audit the grants management process and continuously look for opportunities to improve and streamline the process
● Participate in the planning and execution of the annual Bristol Sessions Super Raffle
● Assist Director of Development in the implementation of the BCM Development Plan which includes the multiple “building blocks” necessary to ensure the financial sustainability of BCM
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
● Highly organized
● Strong communication and writing skills
● Computer Proficiency and Experience: Word, Excel, and Google Suites
● Strong time management skills
● Ability to operate independently
● Data tracking and analysis ability
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
● College degree preferred, high school diploma or GDE required
● Experience with grants highly desirable
● Experience with data tracking required
● Experience with grant software preferred
● Experience with state and federal grants preferred
● Experience with nonprofits preferred
