Tow Boat Captain
TowboatU.S. Miami seeks a licensed professional captain for our Marine Assistance Company. The captain candidate must possess excellent small boat handling skills, be comfortable and very confident on a small boat and have the ability to learn the procedures and policies of TowboatU.S. Miami's operation.
Responsibilities:
- Operate a fast response towing vessel in the waters of Biscayne Bay, Atlantic Ocean, Bahamas area, assisting disabled boaters on-the-water.
- Assist boaters on the water with towing, fuel drops, jumpstarts, ungroundings and general marina assistance.
- Able to communicate with customers and dispatch towboats to assist them.
- Perform daily maintenance on the towboats.
Mandatory Requirements:
- US Coast Guard License upon Near Coastal waters with an Assistance Towing Endorsement. STCW
- A current Transportation Workers Identification Credential (TWIC) issued by the TSA.
- A pre-employment Drug Test is required and then you will be enrolled in a random drug testing program as required by the USCG.
- Have reliable vehicle and valid driver's license.
- Must reside in the area.
Training:
In addition to having a USCG License, all captains are required to undergo in-house training. This training is provided by TowboatU.S. Miami at no expense to the prospective employee. Training will include customer service guidelines, communication procedures and boat handling/towing practices. A prospective captain will complete this necessary training to the satisfaction of our staff before operating a towboat without oversight.
Compensation:
Captains work shifts and are paid a daily rate for 3 months' probation period, after which captain will be commission based. TowboatU.S. Miami is one of the largest marine assistance towers in the country with excellent income potential for captains. Captains can expect to make from 100k to 120K per year depending on work ethic. We have a 401K program which is popular with crew. TowboatU.S. Miami on Facebook and Instagram.
