Senior Project Engineer Job Description• Designs complex public works projects and develops related plans, specifications, estimates, and schedules.
• Supervises and directs public works projects through completion; meets with contractors to discuss projects; reviews projects upon completion.
• Observes ongoing construction projects to ensure compliance with specifications, standards, and safety practices.
• Responds to the concerns of residents, contractors, developers, contractors, other city departments, and other government agencies.
• Performs project management duties.
• Compiles and prepares budgetary documents.
• Monitors and evaluates public works utilities to develop or complete maintenance schedules and master plans.
• Reviews consultant engineering firm plans and specifications for compliance with city standards.
• Performs related duties.• Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with the completion of a baccalaureate degree in a course of study related to the occupational field.
• Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.
• Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of North Dakota for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
• Possession of or ability to readily obtain certification as an Engineering Intern or Professional Engineer in the State of North Dakota.• Knowledge of civil engineering principles and practices.
• Knowledge of public works infrastructure construction, maintenance and repair principles.
• Knowledge of relevant federal and state laws, city ordinances, and department policies and procedures.
• Knowledge of computers and job-related software programs.
• Knowledge of GIS principles.
