BISON Transport USA is currently looking for a Safety Manager to add to their team in Hermon, ME.

The Safety Manager is responsible for promoting the safe and efficient operations of the fleet; monitoring the everyday practices for DOT compliance; maintaining proper documentation and retention; and overseeing accident and safety issues. This person is responsible for implementing and executing safety programs that effectively lead the company’s safety culture. Must provide sound leadership and management to ensure compliance with DOT regulations and company policies in an over-the-road and dedicated transportation environment. While maintaining wide ranging skills, knowledge and abilities related to safety and compliance, Safety Managers are assigned main focus areas including: Driver Services, Safety Programs, Compliance, Facilities and Driver Development.

Sample Responsibilities:

Driver Safety:

  • Develop, implement, and supervise the company Driver Safety Program.
  • Communicate with drivers regarding core safety principles and accident avoidance.
  • Manage the driver qualification process while ensuring documentation related to Commercial Motor Vehicle Records, DOT physicals, National Registry, Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse and Drug and Alcohol testing are maintained appropriately.

Accident Response:

  • Conduct post-accident and post-injury investigations; root cause analysis; and ensure proper completion of required documentation and reporting to the proper agencies.
  • Assist and cooperate in the preparation of material and evidence for organization use in hearings, lawsuits, and insurance investigations.

Compliance:

  • Ensuring that all established policies and procedures are adhered to. This is accomplished by having a firm understanding of existing policy and procedures, communication, training, and clear direction to team members, and being knowledgeable in the basic structure and operating procedures of each department.
  • Perform periodic audits of the Safety Program to ensure safety policies and procedure compliance.

Leadership:

  • Lead and manage other members of the safety department.
  • Ensure safety and compliance program objectives/goals are met.
  • Provide input to the executive level regarding the establishment of goals/programs.
  • Provide continuing assessment of established goals/programs by recognizing current and potential issues and needs, geographical issues, as well as competitive advantages and disadvantages.

What Will You Need?

  • Minimum college Diploma or university Certificate or equivalent demonstrated experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in safety within the transportation industry.
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and facilitation skills.
  • Demonstrated experience in safety within the transportation industry.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to always maintain confidentiality.
