BJC HealthCare is seeking a Health Information Mgmt Spec. for release of patient information. This would be a hybrid position requiring you to go on site to cover shifts as needed as well.
Hours: M-F 6 am-2:30 pm
Brief Summary of Daily Responsibilities:
- Answer phones, voicemail – respond to calls for physician offices and healthcare facility continuation of care requests for medical records
- Respond to/send faxes for physician offices and healthcare facility continuation of care requests
- Enter all requests for information and faxes into the electronic health system for tracking
- CD Processing of Audit records
- Maintain exceptional customer service skills when working both internal and external customers
- Looking for a detail oriented, self-motivate individual with excellent communication/customer service skills and critical thinking skills. Previous experience in release of information or HIM is beneficial.

Role Purpose
The Health Information Management (HIM) Specialist maintains, retains and discloses the official record of care. This position supports the areas of patient safety, continuity of care, patient privacy and ensures the proper release of medical records and information in accordance with regulatory guidelines.
Responsibilities
- Manages the completion of the medical record in accordance with regulatory standards and internal medical staff bylaws, including collaboration with providers up to and including recommendation of suspension of privileges.
- Reviews requests for release of information in accordance with HIPAA defined regulations; provides a complete and reproducible medical record in the format and delivery as defined by the requestor; maintains patient confidentiality at all times, as well as the additional requirements related to the release of sensitive information (ie. behavioral health, alcohol and/or drug abuse, psychotherapy notes, HIV, and AIDS).
- Reviews, analyzes and maintains data integrity within the MPI and electronic health record, to include the remediation of duplicate medical record numbers, overlays and correction of clinical and demographic information; performs scheduled audited analysis of medical record documentation; collaborates with compliance, risk management, BJC leadership, source and downstream systems to ensure prompt resolution.
- Manages the form distribution application, including the design, review and governance of additional forms; takes action to decommission forms, and standardizes electronic & paper documentation across the system; acts as a liaison between the health system and the forms vendor; collaborates with electronic medical record analysts.
