We are looking to hire a mid-level professional with 4 years of experience to work with the Environmental Site Assessment Group to provide quality services to our clients. This position will involve contaminated or polluted soil, sediment, and groundwater management for Department of Transportation (DOT) and municipal bridge, highway, railroad, trail, and facility construction projects located throughout Connecticut and Rhode Island. Additionally, they will have the opportunity to see, and gain experience in, all aspects of a full-service environmental group including all technical aspects of field work, proposal preparation, phase-level management, subcontractor oversight and reporting.
Responsibilities include:
- Performing tasks under supervision of the Project Manager in support of environmental compliance during public infrastructure inspection projects.
- Construction Management tasks include preparation of waste characterization letters, review of Contractor submittals, laboratory coordination, technical support for field personnel, and compliance documentation.
- Due diligence tasks including Phase I ESAs, Corridor Land Use Evaluations, and desktop/regulatory file/database reviews.
- Site Investigation tasks including work plan preparation, coordination with drilling and traffic control subcontractors, soil/sediment/groundwater sample collection, boring/groundwater logs completion, evaluation of analytical data, and report preparation.
- MS4 Compliance tasks including wet and dry weather sampling, inspection of Best Management Practices (BMPs), Catchment Investigations, updating GIS application, and report preparation.
- Compliance with field health and safety requirements. Preparation of Health and Safety Plans (HASPs) and Job Hazard Analysis (JHAs).
Required Experience:
- BS Degree in Environmental Science, Geology, Hydrogeology, Environmental Engineering, or related scientific or technical field.
- 4 years of experience in conducting environmental site assessment investigations and management of contaminated or polluted soil, sediment and groundwater.
- Experience in field sampling of environmental media (soil, sediment, water, waste).
- Experience with the preparation of Site Investigation Reports, Groundwater Monitoring Reports, Underground Storage Tank Closure reports, and HASPs, and coordination with subcontractors, client representatives, and stakeholders.
- Working knowledge of Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (CTDEEP) Remediation Standard Regulations (RSRs).
- Working knowledge of Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management (RIDEM) Regulations for the Investigation and Remediation of Hazardous Materials Management preferred.
- Strong technical report writing skills with ability to draw conclusions and recommendations for next steps.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to access remote locations and sites for sampling.
- Ability to lift/carry field equipment up to 50 pounds.
- Familiarity with AutoCAD and/or GIS preferred.
- OSHA HAZWOPER 40-hour Certification preferred.
- Experience with CTDOT and RIDOT Environmental Compliance programs a plus.
- Flexibility to travel, when needed, to support project needs.
