What are the responsibilities and job description for the Host/Cashier/Busser position at Black Bear Diner?
Summary:
- At Black Bear Diners, we have been serving Good Old Fashioned Family Food since 1995. We are a fun, family-friendly concept known for our great homemade food, large portions and genuine, friendly service.
- The overall responsibility of a Server Support Team member, you’ll be responsible for ensuring our guests have a positive and friendly experience.

Knowledge / Technical Expertise:
- Accommodate special seating requests for guests whenever possible.
- Greet all arriving guests warmly and promptly.
- Seat guest guests based on guest preferences and balancing of customer flow in service stations.
- When immediate seating is limited, record guest names and number of people in party. Provide guests with estimated waiting time. Call out name and number of party when tables become available.
- Upon seating, offer guests a menu. Inspect table for proper presentation and completeness.
- Relay messages to servers as needed.
- Maintain clean entrance, lobby, dining room, and restrooms.
- Assist servers in maintaining and stocking service stations.
- Transport bus tubs with dirty dishes to dish room if dish machine if needed.
- Clean and reset tables promptly. Clean chairs, booths, and surrounding carpet.
- Take food and beverage orders from guests requesting take out service, enter orders in our point-of-sale system.
- Process payments correctly and efficiently. Close checks.
- Thank guests for their visit and invite them to return.
- Perform side work at the start and end of each shift as assigned.
- Be available to fill in as needed to ensure the smooth and efficient operation of the restaurant as directed by the restaurant manager or immediate supervisor.
Appearance / Uniform:
- Complies with all company standards related to appearance and uniform standards.
WORK Conditions:
- Ability to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays in addition to normal business.
Postural & Physical Demand Requirements:
- Frequent reaching above waist, chest and shoulder level as well as and reaching below waist level.
- Frequent to continuous need for manual dexterity of both hands (pushing, pulling, handling, gripping, fine finger controls, etc.).
- Continuous standing on hard surfaces for many tasks.
- Frequent hip flexion while walking for all tasks.
- Frequent exposure to cold/ below freezing and high heat temperatures (walk-in refrigerator, freezers, and ovens)
- Be able to work in a standing position for long periods of time.
- Be able to reach, bend, stoop and frequently lift up to 50 pounds.
- Bending, squatting, stooping for cleaning activities throughout the shift.
- Climbing on step stools for cleaning projects as needed.
