General Information & Responsibilities
Provides grounds and maintenance services on campus roads, parking lots and grounds. Position located at East Campus in Galva, IL.
Description of Duties
DESCRIPTION OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES :
a. Repairs and maintains Campus and satellite site roadways, lots, and pathways.
b. Performs all outdoor grounds maintenance, mowing, irrigation, landscaping, pest disease control measures; inclusive of all trees, shrubbery, plants, etc.
c. Performs first level maintenance on all grounds equipment, vehicles, operation logs, and service records.
d. Performs snow removal and salt spreading and utilizing all appropriate equipment and outdoor assignments during winter months.
e. Installs and repairs sod; seeds; applies fertilizer, herbicides, fungicides and insecticides.
f. Performs general tree maintenance.
g. Performs emergency acetylene welding repairs on vital equipment.
h. Assists with outside lighting systems, electrical junctions, conduit removal or installs and erects scaffolding.
i. Operates power equipment, heavy equipment, and hand tools while observing College safety procedures.
j. Works overtime hours as needed.
k. Maintains a valid Illinois driver's license.
DESCRIPTION OF OTHER DUTIES :
a. Secures general instructions from Facilities Superintendent and Assistant Facilities Superintendent and proceeds with work assignments.
b. Coordinates and plans moving of College equipment; assembles equipment as needed.
c. Maintains inventory and orders supplies.
d. Builds and constructs items for the department.
e. Coordinates the removal of recycling materials, including delivery of materials; maintains records on program and implementation progress and coordinates recycle persons.
f. Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

PRINCIPAL WORKING RELATIONSHIPS :
a. Works directly with the Facilities Superintendent and the Assistance Facilities Superintendent.
b. Works cooperatively with departmental personnel to insure maximum service.
c. Works cooperatively with Maintenance and Custodial departments to help achieve goals in a cost-effective manner and provide quality services.
d. Works cooperatively with others.
Education & Experience
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE : (To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and / or ability required.)
a. High school diploma or recognized equivalent required.
b. Ability to lift up to 75 pounds on a regular basis required.
c. Agriculture or horticulture background with one or more years of experience in a similar position preferred.
d. Ability to follow instructions with minimum supervision required.
e. Ability to read and understand operation manuals relating to equipment used.
f. Ability to communicate effectively with others required.
h. Knowledge of mechanical maintenance or an interest in maintenance type work desired.
k. Public operator's I.D. card for turf pesticide control from the Illinois Dept. of Agriculture and Bureau of Environment preferred.
l. Ability to work under difficult conditions including inclement weather, and hazardous conditions.
m. Must be alert at all times and able to react calmly in an emergency.
