Job Description: Blazer Jobs, in collaboration with the Chicago Heights School District, is currently seeking a dedicated and skilled Sign Language Interpreter (SLI) to join our team in Chicago Heights, IL. As a Sign Language Interpreter, you will play a crucial role in facilitating communication between students who are deaf or hard of hearing and their teachers, peers, and other school staff.
Responsibilities:
- Provide in-class interpreting services for students with hearing impairments.
- Interpret lectures, discussions, and other educational materials into American Sign Language (ASL) or other appropriate sign systems.
- Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment for students with hearing impairments.
- Collaborate with teachers and other school staff to ensure effective communication strategies are in place.
- Assist in interpreting during extracurricular activities and school events as needed.
- Maintain accurate records and documentation related to interpreting services.
Qualifications:
- Certification as a Sign Language Interpreter (SLI) is required.
- Proficient in American Sign Language (ASL) or other relevant sign systems.
- Experience working with students who are deaf or hard of hearing is preferred.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to adapt to different educational settings and accommodate individual student needs.
- Demonstrated sensitivity and understanding of deaf culture.
