Overview
The Blood Bank of Delmarva was established in 1954 as a private, not for profit agency to collect, test, and distribute blood products in the Delmarva region. Today, the Blood Bank of Delmarva, now an affiliate of the New York Blood Center Enterprise (NYBCe), employs approximately 192 full- and part-time employees. It is among the nation's premium providers of blood products and services while serving as an integral part of the Delmarva community health care system. The Blood Bank of Delmarva’s mission is to provide a safe and adequate blood supply for patients within our community.
Responsibilities
This position is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the technical operations department.
- Supervises, trains, develops and mentors assigned staff.
- Identifies, assists in developing, implements, and monitors processing improvement initiatives and incorporates best practices into the organization.
- Oversees and ensures that day-to-day task of the department are done accurately and expeditiously.
- Provide support and assistance in the development, interpretation and implementation of all various technical operations policies and procedures working with all relevant stakeholders throughout the organization.
- Ensure adherence to all quality measures in place at NYBC at all mobile/fixed sites and corrects and reports any deviances as necessary.
- Assists with regulatory inspections, ensuring all requests are retrieved and forwarded to the appropriate party.
- Provide support of software applications and its operation in fixed and mobile sites.
- Resolve complex problems and issues relating to technology that are escalated at mobile/fixed sites to ensure the efficient operations of the assigned drive.
- Ensures all criteria and registration forms are updated and meet regulatory guidelines
- Ensures compliance with relevant NYBC, FDA, AABB, OSHA, and CLIA regulations.
- Develops new SOPs for new equipment and technological processes.
- Serves as a resource for Donor Center and Mobile staff.
- Reviews and completes deviations and CAPA analysis in Quality Management. Software, identifying trends in order to recommend positive changes to improve all processes.
- Maintains a working knowledge of Collections equipment in order to ensure methods are written to comply with all regulatory agencies and standards.
- Provides oversight or executes the design, development, validation and implementation of new or revised processes.
- Ensures coverage for a seven day a week/twenty-four hours operation.
- Oversee post donation quality control processes that confirm the eligibility of collected blood products.
Qualifications
Valid Driver’s License
Education:
High school degree with four years of experience in quality activities, organizational optimization, collections operations or blood banking, experience must include one year of team lead or supervisory experience.
Bachelor’s degree in business/healthcare administration, Quality/Project Management or a related field with two years of experience in quality activities, organizational optimization, collections operations or blood banking, experience must include one year of team lead or supervisory experience.
Knowledge:
- Knowledge of documentation practices and procedures.
- Knowledge of AABB, FDA and OSHA regulations.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Suites.
- Knowledge of donor criteria, interview, and blood collection procedures.
- Knowledge of the ALYX and Trima machine function.
- Knowledge of quality control practices and principles.
