What are the responsibilities and job description for the Payroll Specialist position at Blue Bird Body Company?
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Execute payroll process for company from start to finish including but not limited to:
- Acts as a subject matter expert and/or resource to others in the area of payroll processing, processing end to end payroll for hourly and salaried exempt employees
- Initiates payroll processing quality assurance reviews; identifies training issues and/or problem prone processes to ensure optimal efficiency and error-free operations
- Analyzes and responds to complex matters requiring comprehensive knowledge of payroll policies and procedures; authorizes exceptions to the policy within defined limits
- Researches and interprets a variety of complex technical information in response to inquiries
- Authorizes, review and/or enters payroll transactions and related data; completes appropriate forms to adjust wage/salary account funds or to correct/balance a special situation
- Coordinates, prepares and files a variety of local, state and federal forms including, but not limited to: Garnishments, Compliance, monthly, quarterly, and year end filings; May partner with vendor on these tasks
- Leads the development of new procedures and policies related to payroll operations; coordinates approved changes within payroll processing system; updates affected policy/procedure manuals and conducts training sessions for HR Partners to explain and/or updated information regarding payroll policies and procedures
- Leads specialized work projects or department functions
- Acts as a liaison with employees and HR partners in answering questions, providing alternatives, and facilitating decision-making related to payroll
- Responds verbally or in writing to inquiries, complaints or problems and makes necessary adjustments of a non-routine nature
- Performing other related duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Advanced Microsoft Office Skills, specifically Excel & Word
- Strong leadership and interpersonal skills to building relationships, influence others, collaboratively solve problems, and partner effectively with key internal stakeholders
- Ability to analyze complex data sets to understand historical behavior and forecast future trends
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
- Organizational and time management skills
- Strong attention to detail
- Demonstrated intellectual curiosity and comfort with ambiguity
Education and/or Training:
- Degree in accounting, finance, or a related field
- 7 years of experience in payroll administration
- Good working knowledge of payroll practices and tax laws
