ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Assess project requirements and technical challenges; provide estimates and updates on all assigned tasks to Project Management and supervisor; conduct risk assessments
- Create low voltage electrical harnesses for SAE J1939 CAN communication and discrete communication
- Properly size wires and cables based on system load and requirements
- Create 3D models for components and sub-systems using Catia v6 CAD software
- Ensure all designs meet all applicable FMVSS, school bus, company or supplier technical requirements
- Define or assist in definition of electrical system and component specifications
- Produce component/system drawings and specifications that achieve safety, quality, timing, and cost targets; define bill of material requirements; define and maintain feature requirements or constraints; establish design and installation specifications
- Trouble shoot CAN network communication
- Program using Simulink software.
- Validate and approve new product designs in coordination with internal and external stakeholders to ensure they are safe, robust, and efficient
- Interact as necessary with system and component suppliers
- Communicate with internal teams including Manufacturing Engineering, Purchasing, and Sales
- Ability to manage multiple projects and strive for on-time completion of all assigned tasks and deliverables
- Provide design support to cross functional team to during development, procurement, launch, and support phases of projects.
QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:
- Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university
- Individual must be technically minded, and able to manage projects and assigned objectives to completion
- Minimum 5 years product design experience in a relevant automotive, truck, bus or other on-highway vehicle company
- Experience with computer-aided design/modelling software (CATIA V6 or equivalent)
- Experience with engineering design, quality, and problem-solving disciplines such as DFMEA, DVP&R, DFM, 8D, GD&T, etc.
- Familiarity with Matlab and Simulink Software
- Experience with any of these areas of electrical integration:
- Electric Vehicles
- CAN communication / J1939 data links / Multiplexing / Vehicle Electronic Programming Stations (VEPS)
- Automotive displays (LCD, Touchscreen, etc.)
- Collision Avoidance Systems
- Automotive Feature Integration
- Automotive Wiring /Harnesses
- Must possess strong technical expertise, ability to manage people and projects to completion.
- Excellent written and verbal technical communication, and time management skills
- Strong desire to make a difference and ensure the safety of the drivers and children who ride on our buses every day
