The West Coast Production Supervisor plays a critical role in the success of our production operations. As Production Supervisor you will help perform technical and mechanical diagnostics, coordinate and help perform preventative and non-planned (emergency) mechanical, technical, and facility repair work, develop new production processes and ensure they are sustained, drive our performance reporting and continuous improvement initiatives, and oversee all of our production equipment service contracts.
You’ll also help us discover the root cause of issues we experience on our manufacturing teams, and develop action plans and necessary steps to resolve these issues, ensuring that our actions taken and processes developed are built to last. To achieve this you will develop strong partnerships with our regional manufacturing and facilities teams, as well as other cross functional teams across our business.
\n- Production Continuity and Performance
- Create production plans, engaging with cross-company stakeholders in order to ensure that the output levels of our sites match our customer demand.
- Possess a thorough understanding of how to safely and responsibly use all coffee roasting and packaging equipment.
- Calculate labor needs and hire, schedule, train, manage, and individually develop an incredible team dedicated to production excellence.
- Map out and assess our existing processes and workflows.
- Update and create standard operating procedures (SOPs), policies, and training materials as needed to achieve consistency and clarity in all of our production processes, ensuring that new processes have defined standards and the necessary support to stand the test of time.
- Provide problem solving expertise by identifying root causes for problem areas and recommending possible solutions.
- Provide thorough instructions for successful implementation of process changes.
- Assemble reports to document process status or changes and communicate findings and proposals to our local leadership team.
- Coordinate activities and provide direction for processing and packing operations, implementing strategies for safety, sanitation, productivity, and cost savings improvements.
- Contribute to departmental efforts by accomplishing related tasks as needed, including the oversight of production equipment calibration and maintenance schedules and departmental inventory management.
- Maintenance and Instrument Calibration
- Perform work to upgrade or improve our production equipment, utilities, or facility, to help improve our efficiency, safety, food safety, and accuracy and maintain compliance with all internal and regulatory requirements.
- Perform necessary preventative and non-planned (emergency) facility repair work to ensure that our production sites are not negatively impacted by time that our resources are off-line or down due to facility problems or issues.
- Partner with our SH&E and Food Safety teams to ensure that our coffee manufacturing facilities and teams are operating in compliance with all necessary local and governmental programs and regulations.
- Maintain our maintenance and facility records and schedule, ensuring that all maintenance activities are performed at the correct time to ensure proper operation of our production resources.
- Support our team when selecting, receiving, installing, and commissioning new production equipment at our facilities.
- Ensure that the vendor /manufacturer service contracts are up to date and provide the correct level of coverage necessary to support in the event that advance support needs to be prioritized.
- Partner with our regional facilities team to ensure that each of our facilities, utilities, and production resources are always in the proper condition to meet all internal and regulatory safety requirements.
- Manage our equipment and instrument calibration, certification, and validation programs, seeing that our monitoring and diagnostic resources are operating correctly for all production needs.
- Continuous Improvement
- Help sustain key performance indicators, supporting the development of tools that will aid our team in finding and understanding opportunities to continuously improve our manufacturing processes.
- Support our manufacturing teams in root cause analysis as needed. Systematically assess operational production problems and understand the best steps to achieve improvements or problem resolution.
- Provide pre and post-installation analysis on new technology and capital equipment installations.
- An excellent communicator (clear, articulate, and hospitable). You are a collaborator at your core, and a team player who is flexible to changes as our production needs shift.
- Detail-oriented and a maniacal creator of lists, schedules, process diagrams, etc. yet flexible and ‘can do’ when the inevitable surprise pops up that requires urgency and creativity to resolve.
- Always ahead of schedule: You anticipate problems beforehand and take preventive measures, actively communicate and ask for assistance, in order to resolve potential problems before they become an actual issue for our teams, team members, or guests.
- Advanced in mechanical and technical repair and diagnostics, and have the competencies to ensure production equipment, instruments, utilities, and facility resources are always functioning properly and supported sufficiently.
- You are a quick reader of technical situations, who is able to accurately troubleshoot issues, gauge the capabilities yourself and service providers, and apply the correct approach to quickly resolve the root cause of a problem.
- Highly observant of data and metrics and intent on using both to develop new ideas and opportunities for process improvement.
- Possess a thorough understanding of compliance with regulatory and organizational food safety, quality, and general safety requirements as they pertain to technical work.
- Able to assess and balance multiple priorities to ensure that project timelines are achievable, and milestones and objectives are consistently delivered on time.
- 2 years of management leadership experience in a manufacturing, production, military or related environment required.
- General mechanical knowledge.
- Understanding of QA, Food Safety, and Safety Management Systems.
- Broad knowledge of a range of leadership strategies and production processes.
- Excellent analytical and math skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to persuade others to change existing practices.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Proven ability to identify, assess and solve problems.

- The ability to stand, walk, sit for long periods of time (at least 8 hours per day and 5 days per week).
- The use of hands to handle or feel and the ability to reach with hands and arm.

- The ability to squat, bend, twist and reach for items below waist level or above shoulders.
- The ability to lift, push/pull, carry and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- The ability to speak loudly and clearly. This role is subject to loud noise for extended periods of time, to cause the worker to shout in order to be heard above ambient noise level.
- The ability to climb ladders, stairs, ramps and uneven floor and/or surfaces as needed.
- The ability to have close visual acuity to perform repetitive visual checking, counting, spotting small defects, determine accuracy of numbers.
- This position has a salary of $66,560. The final salary offer will be determined after reviewing relevant factors, which include a candidate's qualifications and experience, where appropriate.
