What are the responsibilities and job description for the Instrumentation & Controls Technician II position at Blue Origin, LLC?
As part of a small team, you will provide hands on technical support during the construction, modification, operation, troubleshooting and maintenance of instrumentation and control systems associated with rocket engine and space vehicle test facilities. This position will directly impact the history of space exploration and will require your dedicated commitment and detailed attention towards safe and repeatable spaceflight. Responsibilities: Test facility construction, operation and maintenance Proper installation, checkout and troubleshooting of instrumentation, valve control, and data acquisition systems. Subject matter expert of instrumentation sensor types, data acquisition hardware and valve control system hardware and manufacturers Receive and provide direction on the operation of instrumentation and control systems during test and operations Establish maintenance procedures for instrumentation, data acquisition and control systems Place purchase orders for system components and hardware Provide subject matter expertise to test and design engineers on design concepts, improvements and tests Demonstrate a strong bias for safety in operations Safe working practices Comprehend of the dangers of all voltage/current levels Understanding the proper practices with working on live electrical systems for troubleshooting Proper cable/wire and connector selection/specification Hazardous chemicals, cryogenic fluids and high pressure gases Minimal Travel required (~10%) Qualifications: Knowledge of data acquisition and control system hardware architectures, experience designing and installing large sensor and control wiring systems, including J-box layout and cable routing, connector termination, wire selection, shielding specification, power supply selection, e-stop design, environmental considerations, etc Knowledge and experience with instrumentation (high and low frequency), facility controls and data systems hardware and manufacturers with specific emphasis on National Instruments PXI and SCXI Data Acquisition Systems, OMRON, pressure transducers, accelerometers, strain gauges, thermocouples, load cells, relays, solenoid valves, current loop sensors, DC circuitry, and Ethernet networks Knowledge of best practices for signal noise reduction in isolated voltage, current loop, and bridge applications, experience identifying root cause of sensor noise and implementing solutions Demonstrated experience efficiently troubleshooting data acquisition and control systems end-to-end (from the hardware to the console) Demonstrated ability to work with test, flight and safety critical hardware, tools and shop equipment Willing to work 1stor 2nd shift as required Proficient in MS Office; (Word, Excel); Visio Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and strengthen our culture of inclusion Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.
