Embedded Tutor
Job Posting for Embedded Tutor at Blue Ridge Community and Technical College
The Embedded Tutor will coach students in reading and writing skills and will differentiate instruction as tailored to individual student’s needs and as directed by the instructor.
- to become familiar with the curriculum, the syllabus, and Blackboard
- to work closely with the instructor on tutoring students according to their needs as identified over the course of the semester and in a pre and post Accuplacer test
- to be available during designated class times (six per semester or 9 hours)
- to assist or reinforce students’ understanding, interpretation, and execution of assignments
- to hold formal tutoring hours outside of class for 13 hours a week during 6 weeks of the 16-week semester
- to work closely with each individual student over the course of the semester
Education
- Bachelor of Arts degree (include unofficial transcript) in English or a closely related field
- Master’s degree in English or Reading preferred
- TESOL Certification preferred
Experience
- Tutoring, teaching, or customer service experience preferred
- Teaching Reading Experience preferred
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required
- Excellent people skills, communicating, listening, and speaking
- Strong writing and reading skills
- Organization and time-management skills
