Position Summary:
The Thrift Shop Associate is responsible for the daily operations of the shop to include opening and closing of the shop, cash register operation, receiving & processing of donations, and merchandising the shop sales floor.
Essential Job Functions:
- Prices, stocks, and merchandises display items for sale in the thrift shop.
- Opens, closes, and ensures thrift shop operates properly during regularly scheduled hours.
- Works closely with volunteers to ensure they can assist in the operations of the shop.
- Maintains accurate receipts of all sales and donations.
- Ensures daily deposits are accurate and timely.
- Greets all customers with a friendly and polite demeanor when entering the store and thanks each customer when entering and leaving the shop.
- Helps manager orient new volunteers to thrift shop, office procedures, and safely precautions.
- Assists the manager to ensure that the shop, offices and bathrooms are clean and safe Rotates on a regular schedule as assigned to ensure shop is clean.
- Cooperates and communicates with the CEO, CFO, Directors and Blue Ridge Hospice staff as appropriate.
- Meets as needed with the supervisor/and or manager to review the shop needs and assists with ordering inventory.
- Seeks opportunities for professional growth, including demonstrating the ability to receive constructive performance feedback. Seeks assistance of supervisor or other resource persons in responding to opportunities for improvement.
- Acts independently and responsibly to perform job duties on a consistent basis.
- Sensitive to the stressors experienced by colleagues in working with hospice patients, their families and the public.
- Other duties as assigned/or deemed necessary.
- Carries out the mission and values of Blue Ridge Hospice.
- Must provide excellent customer service.
- Must be a licensed driver with an automobile that is insured in accordance with state or organization requirements and is in good working order. Must be willing to travel the entire service area.
Qualifications
Qualifications:
- Minimum requirements are a high school diploma or GED.
- Computer literacy preferred/willingness to learn required.
- Retail experience and customer service, preferred
Physical/Cognitive/Sensory Requirements: The requirements described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successful perform the essential functions of this job:
- Must be able to perform physically in the aspects of lifting at least 50 pounds, stooping, bending, twisting and turning continuously to stock merchandise.
- Must have visual acuity enough to operate a cash register, and other office equipment.
- Must have hearing acuity enough to hear verbal instructions and communication from others and answer the phone.
- Must be able to concentrate on moderate details with frequent interruptions, attend to specific functions for 10 – 25 minutes, remember multiple tasks and assignments over an 8-hour period, and understand and relate specific ideas and concepts.
- Must be able to deal effectively with stress, patients and their families, vendors, multiple tasks, notice, and interruptions, and to work cooperatively with other members of the Thrift Shop Team and Blue Ridge Hospice staff while maintaining a pleasant and professional demeanor.
