Project Lead - ARPA-H

BMNT
Arlington, VA Full Time
POSTED ON 5/26/2022 CLOSED ON 9/19/2022

What are the responsibilities and job description for the Project Lead - ARPA-H position at BMNT?

BMNT helps government organizations identify and solve problems at scale and at startup speed.  Our work has saved taxpayers billions of dollars and deployed lifesaving technologies to parts of the world where they’re needed most. BMNT helps the government design and build sustainable innovation programs based on Lean Innovation principles and Human-Centered Design. BMNT also connects the government with non-traditional industry experts with solutions and novel approaches to their problems. If you’re passionate about working on projects that deliver visible and global impact, we’d love for you to join our team.

About the Role:

This Project Lead will work on a new BMNT program with a new agency at Health and Human Services. The mission of this agency is to speed the development and commercialization of biomedical research at a massive scale. Our specific program will work with the Director of Acquisitions to create the acquisition framework and the associated processes for the agency. This is a once-in-a-career opportunity to work with a brand new agency and shape their entire approach to contracting. This program will look internally at challenges with traditional contracting at HHS, externally similar Advanced Research Project Agencies, and potential non-traditional contracting options that could be utilized.

At BMNT, Project Leads play an integral role in our Enterprise Services consulting practice. Their goal is to execute day-to-day operations for a program and to lead a small team. Project Leads are the face of BMNT, working closely with their customer’s organization to build coalitions and innovation programs. A Project Lead has broad authority to develop the tactics to achieve the strategic objectives of their program. To be a successful Project Lead you must be able to help customers develop objectives, craft a plan for achieving those objectives, and then go out and execute it. This is a role for people who want to implement change, not for people who just want to talk about it.

Project Leads are creative, deeply curious, resourceful, biased towards action, customer-obsessed, and willing to apply their creative talent towards designing and implementing projects with programmatic excellence for our customers.  They are passionate about our mission, love working in a fast-paced environment, can work under tight deadlines with a great attitude, and aren’t afraid of ambiguity or relying on their skills and expertise to tackle new challenges to ensure optimal customer outcomes.

Responsibilities:

  • Work with a diverse team, leading the creation of an effective project strategy, building a project plan to achieve targeted customer outcomes, and driving daily activities while problem-solving along the way.
  • Develop and document efficient internal team processes.
  • Conduct market research on a broad range of biomedical topics, reviewing academic literature and identifying commercial companies, products, and SMEs of interest.
  • Conduct industry engagement and develop a robust ecosystem for customers to draw upon.
  • Work with customers to design and implement a program strategy, building a sustainable, robust innovation program at the organization.
  • Design and facilitate workshops with customers. Identify objectives and ensure smooth preparation and logistics for workshops.
  • Skillfully conduct interviews with government and industry stakeholders to identify problems and collect data.
  • Create high-quality deliverables and strategic communication materials customized based on customers’ style preferences.
  • End-to-end project management beginning with concept and strategy development through execution and providing on-going support to ensure a successful transition.
  • Maintain an understanding of customer challenges and design and execute impactful projects to help solve for them.
  • Support the development, tracking, and management of overall project and program performance, and analyzing findings to turn the data into content that customers can easily digest, understand, and use to take meaningful action.
  • Significantly contributes to business development strategy, including identifying contract vehicles, negotiating details of contracts, and shaping opportunities to get, keep, or grow business.
  • Other duties, as assigned

Experience and Qualifications You’ll Need to Thrive in the Role:

  • Passion and excitement for BMNT’s mission and desire to make an impact. The work we do is bigger than any of us.
  • Project Management Experience. 8 years of work experience – at least 3-5 years leading projects to operational success. Proven project management experience, knowledge, and skills.
  • Relationships Building: Strong ability to establish and maintain trust and credibility with the customer, even under times of stress, crisis, errors, and challenges.  Can work with a diverse team – building rapport with designers, technical staff, and other non-technical persons.
  • Creative Thinking.  Capitalizes on the opportunity to develop original ideas, create streamlined processes, implement new solutions, and innovate.
  • Deeply curious:  You are a project-based learner and research the problem space before making implementation decisions, but are also capable of coming up with novel solutions.
  • Collaborative Communication Skills. You have strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to facilitate and present in both large and small group settings.
  • Tech Savvy: Ability to quickly absorb new technical concepts and think analytically about them. You are adept at translating technical ideas to a non-technical team and approach desired project outcomes with optimism.
  • Growth Mindset. Passion for continuous learning and commitment to self-awareness, including proactively seeking and welcoming constructive feedback.  Investigating and learning new things that foster innovation, productivity, agility, and collaboration across your work.
  • Subject Matter Expertise: You have extensive experience in biomedical and healthcare technology.
    • Acquisition Fluency: Have a foundational understanding of government acquisition processes. Experience with non-traditional government acquisition programs, such as Other Transactions (OTs) or SBIRs, Advanced Research Project Agencies (ARPAs), or medical-related acquisition experience.
  • Bonus: Experience with Human Centered Design, Lean Innovation, Lean Six Sigma, or other similar innovation methodologies.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen.

If you are a self-starter with an obsession for outcomes, not activities and a history of achievements, and enjoy working on projects with collaborative and creative teams, this could be the right role for you!.
