Salary Range: Approximately $40.25/hour

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Operate taconite handling equipment and perform maintenance and cleaning functions at BNSF’s Allouez Taconite Facility, which is a 24/7 operation.
- Employees will be subject to call working various shifts off an extra board.
- Occasional welding, grinding, and cutting of various metals and fabricating/repairing equipment.
- Should be able to pass basic welding tests to include vertical, flat and structural stick welding.
- Will operate heavy commercial equipment and need to be able to obtain a crane operator certification.
- The ability to troubleshoot 24 volt electrical systems and understand and troubleshoot hydraulic systems is preferred.
- Will maintain daily records and time sheets and will lift and carry various materials. Will also act as watchman when crew or equipment are fouling track; must remain alert at all times.
SAFETY: Comply with company and federal safety rules, policies and procedures to include wearing required safety equipment, responding to safety concerns and taking appropriate action. May be required to handle hazardous materials.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
- 21 years of age or older.
- Available to work in the geographic area indicated.
- Able to read, write and communicate (speak, hear and communicate) English.
- Able to work outdoors in all weather conditions (hot, cold, rain, snow, and sleet).
- Work a 40 hour work week. Shifts are governed by union agreement and subject to seniority. Mechanical shops operate 24 hours per day, 7 days per week with three 8-hour shifts including weekends, holidays and overtime. Available to work any of these shifts as required.
- Able to lift and carry up to 30 pounds.
- Possess Class A CDL with tanker and hazmat endorsements or be able to obtain one within 60 days of employment.
- Able to visually distinguish among red, blue, green and yellow colors, hear, and with training, distinguish auditory signals.
- Able to use hands to perform activities involving holding, grasping, turning and pulling.
- Able to perform work on uneven surfaces, frequently climb ladders and on/off equipment and work from various heights.
- Able to work in conditions that include loud noise and fumes, work on and around heavy and moving machinery, bend, walk, stand and sit for extended periods of time and use hand tools.
- Follow safety policies and procedures and wear the required personal protective equipment required for the job in a safe manner.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Three (3) to five (5) years welding experience preferred (MIG, STICK, OXY / ACETYLENE).
- Two (2) years technical training preferred. Job requires ability to read in order to deal with various aspects of the job (i.e., instruction manuals, safety instructions, book of rules and regulations).
Training: Company paid on-the-job training is provided.
Relocation: Relocation assistance is not available for this position.
Work Conditions: Extreme all-weather conditions; un-even surfaces; safety sensitive work environment.
Probationary Period: 60 days.
Travel: Minimal.
