Duties Description
This position is for employment with the Secure Elections Center (SEC) of the New York State Board of Elections (SBOE) in Albany, NY. The State Board of Elections works with, but is independent from, the NYS Office of IT Services. In this role you will be responsible for architecting and designing Azure Cloud solutions to meet functional and non-functional requirements. Your role will involve creating and reviewing architecture and solution design artifacts, enforcing adherence to architectural standards/principles, global product-specific guidelines, and usability design standards. You will also provide proactive guidance on engineering methodologies, standards, and leading practices.
Duties of this position include but are not limited to, the following:
  • Architect and design Azure Cloud solutions to meet functional and non-functional requirements
  • Create and review architecture and solution design artifacts
  • Enforce adherence to architectural standards/principles, global product-specific guidelines, usability design standards, etc.
  • Proactively provide guidance on engineering methodologies, standards and leading practices
  • Guidance of engineering staff and reviews of as-built configurations during construction phase
  • Provide insight and direction on roles and responsibilities required for solution operations
  • Identify, communicate and mitigate Risks, Assumptions, Issues and Decisions throughout full lifecycle of project
  • Monitor Azure Cloud environment to ensure it is up and operating properly
  • Manage Azure Cloud Environment to administrative account management, patching and related tasks to ensure environment is up to date and secure
  • Be responsible for performing or overseeing the design, modeling, and implementation of new databases per specifications developed as part of the of the requirements gathering process, including key data elements, relationships, indexes, etc.
  • Coordinate with internal and external entities on any network integration requirements of the system, both initial establishment and on-going operation
  • Manage all aspects of on-going operation, monitoring, support, tuning and enhancement of the database environment, including management of subordinate staff as applicable
  • Develop and maintain detailed technical procedures and documentation for the implementation, operation, monitoring, maintenance, support, security, and enhancement of the database environment.
  • Work with the SBOE Infrastructure team and any applicable vendors to establish, document and test operational procedures required for on-going operation and maintenance of the database environment including disaster recovery, performance monitoring, patching, etc.
  • Work with the SBOE Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) and the Secure Elections Center team to establish, document and test security procedures for the database environment, ensuring adherence to all applicable policies and regulations.
  • Analyze software updates and patches from vendors to determine their potential impact on existing operations
  • Participates in software architecture review and change control processes and works with all necessary parties to minimize the negative impact of changes on the network environment
  • Work with the SBOE Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) and the Secure Elections Center team to establish, document and test security procedures.
  • Work closely with SBOE Public Information Office (PIO) on development and implementation of relevant public-facing presence, including website or web content development.
  • Perform other duties as prescribed.
