This position is for employment with the Secure Elections Center (SEC) of the New York State Board of Elections (SBOE) in Albany, NY. The State Board of Elections works with, but is independent from, the NYS Office of IT Services. As a Data Analyst reporting directly to the Chief Information Security Officer, you will work with large datasets within the organization, such as voter registration and campaign finance records, analyzing them based on the identified needs of the relevant business units. The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical skills, a keen attention to detail, and a passion for transforming data into actionable insights. As a Data Analyst, you will play a crucial role in supporting decision-making processes, optimizing business operations, and contributing to the overall success of the organization.
Responsibilities will include evaluating and transforming data, generate reports, score cards and/or dashboards, monitor database and alert CISO of any findings in a clear and concise manner..
Duties of this position include but are not limited to, the following:
- Evaluate and clean data for analysis;
- Use advanced analysis techniques to identify trends and anomalies in critical agency datasets;
- Research, identify and implement the most effective tools and software
- Prepare and generate reports and data visualizations;
- Evaluate and consider risks of new platform implementations;
- Stay current with industry best practices and emerging trends in data analysis and predictive modeling;
- Identify opportunities for process optimization and efficiency improvements within the data analysis workflow; and
- Provide data-driven recommendations to the IT and BOE leadership on analytics investments and implementation strategies, contributing directly to the strategic decision-making processes.
The following skills and abilities will be beneficial to successful performance of the job:
- Experience with a language commonly used in data analysis such as SQL, R, or Python;
- Experience with data analysis and visualization tools;
- Knowledge of Microsoft Azure;
- Outstanding organizational skills and attention to detail;
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
- Demonstrated ability to identify, analyze and evaluate technology risk as well as measure the risk quantitatively and qualitatively;
- Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills;
- Demonstrated ability to produce written reports including recommended courses of action;
- Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as a part of a team to deliver quality, on-time work product; and,
- Demonstrated ability to work well with people from many different disciplines with varying degrees of technical experience.
