The Boeing Company is looking for a Real Time Software Engineer – (Associate/Mid-Level/Senior) to join the Boot and Security Software Product Line team, part of the Boeing Enterprise Software Engineering organizationlocated inBerkeley, MO, Plano, TX, Mesa, AZ, Oklahoma City, OK, or Long Beach, CA.

This position’s main focus is developing and certifying low level cyber security product line software, device drivers for real-time, embedded software for safety critical and mission critical avionics systems and cyber assured environments.

These systems are required to meet the highest levels of safety standards, levels of rigor and design assurances required by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), Department of Defense (DOD) and National Security Agency (NSA) certification authorities as they are deployed on latest Commercial aircraft, Defense platforms and weapons systems, including un-piloted and autonomous vehicles of the future.

The selected candidate will perform all functions of the full software development lifecycle to provide complete solutions, including define lower level requirements, design, algorithms, software development, and certification. The candidate will also be responsible for developing Software Integration Elements (SIE) for Enterprise frameworks and incorporating it onto an embedded avionic computer system. These SIEs include a mixture of embedded drivers, product security, applications, as well as third-party real-time operating systems (RTOS). Another important part of this job is to perform the requirements-based testing/verification to ensure the developed software meets the highest level of required security rigor.  Familiar with DO-178C for Safety Critical, Design Assurance Level (DAL) software and Software Verification Plan (SVP) is a plus.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Develops, documents, and maintains architectures, requirements, algorithms, interfaces and designs for real time embedded software systems
  • Develops, maintains code, and integrates software components into a fully functional software system
  • Develops software verification plans, test procedures and test environments, executing the test procedures and documenting test results to ensure software system requirements are met
  • Performs software project management and software supplier management functions
  • Develops, selects, tailors and deploys software processes, tools and metrics. Executes and documents software research and development projects
  • Serves as a subject matter expert for software domains, system-specific issues, processes and regulations
  • Tracks and evaluates software team and supplier performance to ensure product and process conformance to project plans and industry standards

This position is hybrid. This means that the selected candidate will be required to perform some work onsite at one of the listed location options; located inBerkeley, MO, Plano, TX, Mesa, AZ, Oklahoma City, OK, or Long Beach, CA. This is at the hiring team’s discretion and could potentially change in the future.

This position requires the ability to obtain a US Security Clearance for which the US Government requires US Citizenship.  Ability to obtain

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/ Experience):

  • Bachelor's, Master's or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering (electrical, computer, software), computer science
  • 3 years experience in C/C and scripting languages such as Python
  • 2 years experience developing software for embedded systems, using one or more of the following real time operating systems (RTOS): FreeRTOS/SafeRTOS, Green Hills u-velOSity 
  • 3 years experience in requirements-based testing and validating methods from inspection, demonstration, test and analysis
  • 2 years experience with modern software development methodologies

Preferred Qualifications (Highly Desired Skills/Experience):

  • 5 years related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Experience in Low Driver development
  • Experience in cyber security encryption/decryption algorithms such as AES, RSA, ECDSA, etc.
  • Experience in open source frameworks and tool-chains such as Google test, Make, CMake, Bazel, Gitlab, Markdown
  • Experience in compiler and debug tools such as Xilinx Vitis, JTAG, etc.
  • Experience in host operating systems: Windows, Linux
  • Experience with IDE Visual Studio Code
  • Experience in DevOps: Gitlab Runner, Docker
  • Experience with Automation and Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) techniques and design patterns Experience with Safety critical software development

Typical Education/Experience:

Associate (Level 2)

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 2 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. Master). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

Mid-Level (Level 3)

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 5 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD, Master 3 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

Senior (Level 4)

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 9 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD 4 years' related work experience, Master 7 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

Travel:

Occasional travel may be required but would be less than 10%.

Relocation:

This position offers relocation based on candidate eligibility.  Basic relocation will be offered for eligible internal candidates.

Salaries are based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.  

Summary pay range for Associate: $85,000.00 - $115,000.00

Summary pay range for Mid-Level: $104,550.00 - $141,450.00

Summary pay range for Senior: $122,400.00 - $165,600.00
