What are the responsibilities and job description for the Finisher/Painter position at Bold Furniture, Inc.?
Job Purpose:
In a safe and efficient manner, finishers will take raw surfaces of MDF or veneer, and transform them into masterfully completed surfaces using a combination of stain, lacquer, and paint. The finishing process is a highly detail-oriented and artful process, requiring extensive problem solving and creativity to create a product that meets customer expectations.
Duties:
· Interpret information on the daily ship list and take direction from Value Stream leads who will prioritize schedule throughout the day as needed.
· Reads and interprets job traveler to discern type of wood, cut of veneer, and product color, and performs proper finishing techniques based on those characteristics.
· Using finish codes and recipes, learns to produce and properly mix custom stain and paint colors as necessary.
· Reads and interprets information regarding chemical reactions depending on the coating types (paints, lacquer, or stain) including time, temperature, and specific handling instructions.
· Uses spray guns or hand techniques to apply finish, monitor flow, and makes adjustment as necessary to avoid conditions such as light or heavy application, runs, drips etc. When issues do occur, finishers must identify and correct them as necessary.
· Monitors quality of work using prints, tolerances, various measuring devices. This includes materials from other areas or suppliers. Completes quality checklists daily.
· Must be able to safely manage 50 – 100 pound pieces of office furniture, using safe lifting practices. Partner lifting is required for pieces larger than 50lbs, a mechanical lift assist is not available in this department.
· Trains in multiple areas and moves from job to job as necessary to support fluctuating production needs.
· Maintains orderly workplace with regard to both tools and components to facilitate easier operations.
· Must be comfortable working around wood dust, paint & paint fumes, & glues and adhesives. Masks and respirators are provided, but not required.
Education/Training/Experience:
· MUST HAVE PRIOR PAINTING OR FINISHING EXPERIENCE.
· High School Diploma or GED preferred, but not required.
· Experience with a variety of hand and power tools including but not limited to spray guns, utility knives, orbital sanders preferred, but not required.
· Must be comfortable working with computers, including ERP databases (Epicor).
· Ability to read, analyze, and interpret written instruction.
· Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $16.00 - $17.00 per hour
