About FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC):
FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) is an exciting robotics program for students in grades 7-12, and the First Robotics Competition (FRC) is designed for students ages 14-18. Students work together to design, build, program, and operate robots to compete in a game-based challenge.
About the Role:
We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic FTC and/or FRC Coach and Mentor to guide our team of students through the FTC and or FRC season. You will play a vital role in fostering a positive learning environment where students can develop valuable STEM skills, teamwork, and problem-solving abilities.
Responsibilities:
- Lead and mentor a team of students in the design, construction, and programming of an FTC and or FRC robot.
- Some preparation and setup time will be required the day before each meet. Additional time requirements for post season and during the summer will be determined based on best practices for FIRST robotics teams. Additional time requirements may also be required during state and world final competitions that will be determined based on team performance.
- Assist students with understanding the FTC and or FRC game challenge and developing a competitive strategy.
- Guide students in robot construction.
- Teach students basic programming concepts and how to program the robot using FTC and or FRC-approved software.
- Promote teamwork, communication, and Gracious Professionalism among students.
- Oversee team safety during robot construction and competition.
- Manage team meetings, schedules, and resources.
- Collaborate with other mentors, parents, and volunteers to support the team.
- Attending FTC workshops and training sessions (as needed).
Qualifications
Qualifications:
- Passion for STEM education and inspiring young people.
- Strong communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong technical skills and coding skills.
- Ability to motivate and encourage students.
- Prior experience with FTC, FRC or robotics is a plus, but not required.
- Willingness to learn and stay updated on FTC and FRC rules and regulations.
