JOB DESCRIPTION
MILLING MACHINE OPERATOR
Summary: To remove/mill asphalt or concrete on highways, private roadways, parking lots and driveways. This is a highly skilled position involving the grade control and operation of a cold asphalt milling machine.
Essential Functions:
- Safely and skillfully operates a cold milling machine following all standard equipment procedures.
- Responsible for proper usage of grade control devices.
- Follow daily procedures and protocols as set forth in job orientations or trainings, or as instructed by the supervisor.
- Maintains equipment in proper operating condition by performing simple preventive maintenance and repair tasks such as adjusting, fluid checks, replacing minor parts and lubricating equipment.
- Responsible for daily checks of the milling drum, conveyors and water supply systems.
- Responsible for daily inspection and replacement of milling teeth on the milling drum to assure proper cutting patterns on pavement surfaces. Refer defects or needed repairs to supervisor. Clean equipment.
- Must maintain an acute sense of awareness to the surrounding footprint of the machine (watch for obstructions while operating the equipment, such as ground utilities, curb and gutters).
- Maintain constant visual contact with co-workers on the ground and trucks in front of the machine.
- Must perform general laborer duties as assigned.
Other Functions:
- Properly follow company and OSHA safety procedures. Bring problems to the attention of the Foreman, Superintendent, Safety Specialist or Human Resources Manager.
- Ensure that proper safety and incident reporting procedures are followed.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by your supervisor.
- Represent Bonness Inc. in a professional manner when on the jobsite at all times
Job Requirements:
- High School Diploma, GED, Trade School, or the equivalent preferred
- Valid Driver’s License
- 3 years of experience operating a milling machine.
- Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions
- Considerable knowledge of heavy-equipment operating principles
- Ability to drive and operate the equipment under varying working conditions
- Working knowledge of methods, materials, and tools used in street and road construction
- Working knowledge of hazards and safety precautions common to heavy equipment operation
- Ability to perform manual work requiring periods of extensive physical exertion and potential exposure to adverse weather conditions.
- Ability to work from construction specifications or blueprints
- Must follow all MOT procedures.
- Manual dexterity
- Ability to lift heavy objects, walk and stand for long periods of time and perform strenuous physical labor under adverse field conditions
