What are the responsibilities and job description for the Custodian position at Bonney-Watson?

Summary:

Performs routine cleaning tasks based upon a schedule created by Operations Management that coordinates with the Weekend Custodian to provide applicable coverage of duties 7 days per week. Use cleaning supplies and equipment to keep buildings looking clean and professional. Back up for servicing vehicles so that they are ready and available for services. Adhere to the company’s safety policies to create a safe work environment for everyone.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Buildings (including Mausoleums)

  • Daily cleaning in Main Building to include arrangement and visitation rooms, administrative areas, lunchroom, public areas, chapel and bathrooms (Annex and Cottage will be cleaned several times per week according to schedule).
  • Mops Floors as needed.
  • Vacuums and dusts as needed.
  • Discards spent flowers from public areas.
  • Dusts caskets in selection room, weekly.
  • Dusts, sweeps, and cleans mausoleums daily. Clean mausoleum bathrooms. Discards spent flowers for the mausoleums. Check for and clear any noticeable cobwebs from mausoleum walls/ceilings.
  • Changes light bulbs as needed.
  • Maintain applicable cleaning supplies levels as needed and make requests for replenishments.
  • Stock bathroom and conference room supplies as needed.
  • Maintains all entrances to be clear of trash and entry doors clear of finger prints.

General Maintenance

  • Changes light bulbs as needed.
  • Perform minor maintenance as needed.
  • Keeps manager informed of any safety or maintenance issues requiring attention and assists with coordination of repairs.

Vehicles

  • Transfer vehicles to local tire factor/repair shop for preventative maintenance

Non-Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Vehicles- Coordinates with Lead Funeral Support to assist if available to ensure:

  • Vehicles are cleaned in a timely manner for upcoming services.
  • Vehicles are equipped with any necessary supplies (tissue, pens, etc.)
  • Vehicles are re-fueled, washed and vacuumed after use.
  • Record maintenance information (oil changes, tire rotations) on digital Vehicle Maintenance Log and Vehicle Maintenance Request Log book.
  • Replace wiper blades, maintains tire pressures and checks/refills vital fluids, etc.

Education/Experience

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Ability

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

Math Ability

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Computer Skills

Knowledge of basic computer skills including Word, Outlook, and Excel.

Certificates and Licenses

Driver's License required.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

  • Paid Sick and Safe Leave Policy:
    Full-time employees working a minimum of 30 hours are eligible for 80 hours of PSSL per year, which accrues at a rate of 3.077 hours each pay period.
  • Holidays: 8 paid days, but open during certain holidays as stated below:
    • Washington Memorial Park & Mortuary: Open on all holidays except New Year’s Day, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day.
    • Satellite Locations: Closed on all holidays except President’s Day and Veteran’s Day when they will maintain regularly scheduled business hours.
    • Employees who work holidays may take another day off with prior approval.
