What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director of IRL Experience position at Book of the Month?
We're taking the Book of the Month experience “IRL”! We’re looking for someone who is passionate about creating breakthrough consumer experiences to help us create and manage a unique physical experience that brings together readers from across the country, with today’s best up-and-coming authors. And, of course, delivers special VIP treatment to our members.
Similar to positions in events, hospitality and experiential marketing, this job combines strategy, project management, programming and customer-facing operations. This position reports to the CEO.
The Role
Pre-launch
- Work with the BOTM team and external agencies to conceptualize the IRL experience from end-to-end
- Create and model business plans
- Design a project plan to manage the entire initiative
- Oversee the build-out of a physical space in Manhattan (~1-4k sq. ft.)
- Oversee hiring for the necessary team
- Oversee launch-related events and PR
Post-launch
- Manage the public-facing aspects of the operation
- Manage the team of employees who staff the operation
- Interface with publishers, agents and authors to develop a calendar of amazing programming
- Work with marketing and creative teams to facilitate production of relevant content
- Gather relevant data on programming and share results to CEO for improvement and iterations over time
About You
- 7-10 years of experience in hospitality, events, or experiential marketing
- Experience developing and launching a new concept is a strong plus
- Professional network in publishing, books, media, and influencers is a plus. At a minimum, you’ve attended at least a few book related events.
- Super strong project management skills
- Demonstrated experience managing a team of employees
- You are passionate about new release fiction and Book of the Month’s mission
