Boom Supersonic is seeking an acoustics engineer with an extensive background in noise and vibration to expand our Overture engineering team. Working closely with aerodynamicists, configuration specialists, and the propulsion team the acoustics engineer will collaborate on design considerations for noise and vibration of the aircraft. This individual will also support supplier selection for specific aircraft components that pertain to noise and vibration.
Responsibilities
- Operate simulation tools, and/or advise others in the operation of those tools, that produce acoustics and vibration data.
- Perform acoustic analyses (source data coming from either simulation or experiment) on aircraft systems and components, including building analysis tools and scripts.
- Develop testing plans for technology development and verification of a design.
- Implement sub-and full-scale testing plans and perform data reduction to verify analytical performance predictions.
- Perform trade studies on both configurational and operational changes to reduce noise & vibration levels.
- Present detailed data and design recommendations based on findings.
- Prediction of acoustic levels interior to and exterior of the aircraft that support engineering design and analysis.
- Travel may be required, up to 10%.
Qualifications

- Experience with computational acoustic analysis techniques, with a strong preference for experience with Powerflow aeroacoustic software
- Experience with modal testing and analysis of aircraft components
- Experience in validation of analysis results against other sources, such as test data, previously published literature, and theoretical source models.
- Experience with prediction and measurement of interior cabin noise levels
- Noise and vibration measurement and data acquisition skills, fluent in data analysis methodology, and have experience making measurements in anechoic/hemi-anechoic chambers/tunnels.
- Experience with testing standards, instrumentation, signal conditioning and digital signal processing
- Experience with flight testing and aircraft certification
Highly Desirable
- Experience
- with supersonic aircraft
- Experience with RTCA DO160 vibration criteria
- Engine vibration diagnostics, analysis and root cause investigations experience
- Unsteady computational fluid dynamics, computational aeroacoustics, and acoustic ray tracing methods experience
- Practical experience with coupled vibro-acoustic radiation problems
- Experience coordinating with government agencies such as the FAA, EASA and NASA
- Knowledge of current state-of-the-art acoustic technologies and technologies under development to include published papers and patent development
