Position Title: Area 2 Social Emotional Learning (SEL) Coach
Program: Area 2 SEL Hub
Terms of Employment: July 1st - June 30th (210 day contract), hours based on schedule

Position Summary
The SEL Coach provides guidance and professional learning in the areas of climate, culture, mental health, social emotional learning, and trauma informed practices. The Coach is responsible for developing new relationships and partnerships with districts, schools, educational organizations, and non-educational organizations. New relationships will be leveraged to effectively address and build capacity for assessing the SEL needs of schools/districts, develop Action Plans, and assist with the implementation of SEL goals to benefit the emotional and behavioral health of student success. Duties may include, but are not limited to: virtual learning, face-to-face workshops, blended learning training, PLC/Network development, onsite coaching, school-wide assessments, and action planning.
General Duties/Expectations

This position includes working directly with the Area 2 SEL Hub which include staff at ROE 4 and other SEL Coaches, Specialists, and Leaders throughout Area 2.
Specific Roles and Responsibilities of the Coach:
- Collaborate with principals, teachers and other key stakeholders to problem solve to develop best practices for continuous improvement for the social emotional growth of students.
- Model and demonstrate classroom strategies for working with students utilizing restorative practices and trauma sensitive approaches.
- Demonstrate knowledge of strategies to improve overall building climate and culture and staff wellness.
- Assist with the REACH Cohort to assess district SEL needs and develop an Action Plan for schools in Boone and Winnebago counties.
- Participate in district/school SEL Action Plan meetings and/or review Action Plan goals.
- Assist district leaders in developing a plan for the implementation of SEL Action Plans including, but not limited to, professional development and coaching.
- Assist with coordinating personalized training, regional professional development, and SEL coaching support aligned to the areas of need.
- Maintain data collection.
- Participate in team meetings to discuss SEL programming and progress towards goals.
- Assist the SEL Hubs in the development of content material associated with the needs identified through the Hubs and with the Wellness Division of ISBE. Examples of potential content includes:
- Whole School Safety and Prevention Planning
- Whole School Trauma Planning and Trauma-Informed Programming
- Classroom Strategies
- Prevention/Early Intervention for Trauma Programming
- Staff Self-Care
- Family and Community Engagement
- Culturally Responsive Teaching and Learning Standards
- Promote the work of the SEL Hubs and ISBE SEL initiatives.
- Increase collaboration and build capacity in the ROE office.
- Complete required trainings provided by REACH and the Area Hubs.
- Coordinate and deliver trainings/workshops in specialized SEL areas.
- Attendance and participation in monthly meetings
- Seek workshops to attend to increase knowledge and awareness in the areas of Social-Emotional learning.
- Other duties as assigned by the Regional Superintendent, Assistant Regional Superintendent, and/or Supervisor.
Interpersonal Relationships
- Have a very high level of social interaction. Will work with many teams.
- Communicate with people face-to-face on a daily basis. Communicate by phone, virtually and email on a daily basis.
- Build relationships with ROE, Area 2 SEL Hub, and within district teams.
Physical Work Conditions
- Work very near others, within a few feet or less while in the office.
- Remote work opportunities for specific tasks with approval from Supervisor.
Work Performance
- Must be accurate and complete all details of the job.
- Often repeat the same activities (meeting, professional development).
- Make decisions that strongly impact the ROEs, SEL Hubs and school's reputation.
- Set most of their daily tasks and goals with minimal supervision.
- Must adhere to deadlines.
Hours/Travel
- The length of the contract is TBD by the Regional Superintendent.
- The work day (start and end time) may be flexible with Supervisor approval.
- The job may require work beyond the normal daily schedule (e.g., evening professional development, travel, conferences, meetings).
- There will be travel required for meetings, professional development and accomplishment of job responsibilities.

Education
Bachelor’s Degree in a related field
Experience
- Experience in social emotional learning, professional development, or other similar Background
- Preferred experience with adult learners

Licenses/Certificates
- Professional Educator License (PEL) Required
- Valid Illinois Drivers’ license Required
