Job Summary: 

The Financial Controller is responsible for the accounting operations of the company, including the production of periodic financial reports, maintenance of cost accounting standards and reporting, maintenance of a comprehensive set of controls, lead role in budget development and reporting, provide financial analysis to support management, operations and sales, and manage all compliance related reporting and audits..

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

A Financial Controller is expected to perform one or more of the following essential job functions based on the business assignment (detailed):

 

·       Oversee the operations of the accounting department and adherence to policy.

·       Drive timely, consistent and accurate reporting for sales, margins, costs, trends, variances, forecasting, analysis, and recommendations to company executives and business unit teams.

·       Meet the required deadline for management to receive weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual financial information and key performance indicators.

·       Oversee the annual budgeting process.

·       Evaluate, maintain and enhance the cash flow projection process and reporting mechanism that includes minimum cash threshold to meet operating needs.

·       Take steps to mitigate financial risks, including the use of control systems, shifting risk to other parties, and insurance coverage.

·       Manage the company’s relationships with external auditors, ERP consultants, Insurance Brokers, Legal Firms, IT firm and Tax Accountants. Review and act upon the findings and recommendations of external parties.

·       Constantly review the efficient use of employee’s time and talent, leveraging software to enhance the ability of the accounting team to scale with the business.

·       Maintain a documented system of accounting policies and procedures.

·       Work cross-departmentally to ensure policies are adhered to, system improvements are on-going and communication occurs to ensure that everyone is informed of any changes.

·       Responsible for commission calculation and reporting

·       Month end general journal entries

·       Balance Sheet reconciliation

·       Maintain the chart of accounts and Dimension set up

·       Issue timely and complete monthly and annual financial statements

·       Compile and submit the monthly bank reporting

·       Manage the production of the annual budget and forecasts

·       Calculate variances from the budget and report significant issues to management

·       Coordinate the gathering of information to external auditors for the annual audit.

·       Monitor debt levels and compliance with debt covenants

·       Comply with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings

·       Develop, implement and/or maintain cross training plans for Finance and Accounting Department. Cross training plan will vary by location based on other team members capabilities. 

·       Other duties as assigned.

 

Required Skills / Abilities / Qualifications:

·       Experience with Microsoft Office and Dynamics NAV (or similar programs).

·       Motivate, lead, gather, and understand information provided by all levels of workers.

·       Positive attitude, work ethic and organizational skills.

·       Excellent interpersonal skills and communication with all levels of management and coworkers.

·       Able to travel 25% of the time between different Company Locations.

·       Proven experience in finance management.

·       Sound knowledge of accounting fundamentals.

·       Auditing experience.

·       Analytical skills.

·       Able to multi-task in a fast-paced production environment.

 

 

Supervisory Responsibilities:

·       Directly supervises the Finance Department. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems, supervise the time clock system and manage and confirm the most accurate information.

Education and/or Experience:

·       Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline, master's degree, or MBA, or equivalent combination between education and experience.

·       Experience in a senior management position.

·       Proficiency in accounting software.

·       Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.

 

Physical Requirements:

While performing the duties of this position, employees are regularly required to sit; talk or hear, in person and by telephone; use hands to finger, handle, feel or operate standard office equipment; and reach with hands and arms. Employees are occasionally required to walk and stand and lift and move records and documents weighing 20 pounds or less. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
