JOB SUMMARY
The Boston Athenæum seeks an experienced Security Officer to join the Security team. Reporting to the Director of Safety & Security, the Security Officer ensures the safety and protection of the Athenaeum’s collections, assets, employees, and patrons while utilizing the highest standards of customer service. The Security Officer also provides a professional lobby presence at the main entrance to the Boston Athenaeum and on all floors during patrols. In addition, the Security Officer conducts foot patrols (interior/exterior) control access and egress, monitors CCTV and alarm systems, composes reports, deters criminal activity, misconduct and performs other duties as outlined.
This position is full-time Monday through Friday (8:00am-4:00pm) schedule with flexibility when necessary.
Duties and Responsibilities
Meet and greet members, guest, visitors and vendors with exceptional customer service and filed questions
Deter, deflect, detect, investigate and/or resolve all activity that could result in loss or liability including criminal incidents, fire hazards and safety conditions.
Maintain a high level of visibility, vigilance and professionalism while on post and patrol.
Patrol each floor of the facility to monitor and assure all patron’s and visitor’s activities are in accordance with rules, regulations and policies.
Observe and report any irregular or unusual activity that may create security risks or safety concerns.
Conduct physical inspection (bag checks) in accordance with policy.
Write detailed narrative reports and maintain daily activity reports (DARs). Enforce rules, regulations, policies, procedures, and respond to emergency situations requiring security assistance.
Monitor all areas of the building to assure all collections, assets and patrons are respected, safe and protected from all nature of threats.
REQUIREMENTS:
- High school diploma (Bachelor’s degree preferred)
- Must be at least 21 years of age
- Pass a background investigation including criminal background check.
- Has experience in professional, suit and tie security environment.
- Comfortable working in a fast paced environment.
- Great attention to detail, strong organizational skills and ability to multi-task.
- Strong communication skills both oral and in written communications.
- Ability to use computer systems including but not limited to Access Control Software (AMAG), Alarm systems, surveillance equipment, and a Fire Command Center/Panel.
- At least two years of experience in building security (preferably libraries/museum.
